Cambelt
RE: Cambelt
I've been unfortunate enough to own two previous cars that had belts fail (one of which was before its due date!), so I aint exactly the most optimistic person to ask.
Present:...
Lotus Evora GT410 Sport, Caterham 420R, CCM Spitfire, VW T2 Bay Window 1976
Past:
DB11 AMR, 992, 991.2, Yamaha MT01, 640d Gran Coupe, 635d Coupe, RS6 C5, Audi TT 225 Coupe, Astra with wind up windows, Citroen ZX, Rover 213, yes behold, a Rover 213... Renault 5

<beep>, you got me worried now. I have to drive tomorrow too!!!!
Surely it will be fine if its only done 29K over 3 years. Given that the alternative is 60k Miles

RE: Cambelt
It should be fine , most of the stress on a cam belt is when you slow down and allow the engine to do the breaking . As these cars are auto there is very little braking effect (apart from sports mode) They won't suffer from becoming slack as they have a auto tensioner .
Just get it done as soon as you can..

RE: Cambelt
I have spoken to 3 dealerships today. They stated that the Cambelt change is 4 years or 40K

RE: Cambelt
I've just spoken to a complete muppet at Audi UK. I asked him whether the belt should be changed at 40k or sooner and he said definitely 40k.
Get this though, he didn't take my details so he had no idea what car I've got or how old it is. I can't believe it's 40k for every car in the Audi range past and present!

Right, I just spoke to an Audi technician directly at Audi UK. The new directive that has or will be sent out to Audi dealers is............
4 Years or 60K miles whichever happens first.

RE: Cambelt
Its a classic recurring issue this one, shame on Audi HQ for not ensuring consistency for such an expensive standard maintenance issue... the last official guidance that I'm aware of is that it was clarified by an Audi HQ Technical Memo to all Dealers to change at 3yrs/60K.
The memo was approx November / December 2005 (as that was when I was researching my belt change)... However I still changed mine at 40K anyway given my paranoia of perished rubber!!

RE: Cambelt
4 years! Great! Hopefully that will filter down to the dealers before mine needs doing.
RE: Cambelt
Had my cambelt replaced by Stoke Audi for £650 inc all parts and vat. Suggest sticking to the 40k interval and would note that you receive a 2 year warranty for the work by using main dealer.
My local down south delaer wanted £1000.

RE: Cambelt
APS Brackley just did mine and cost £1k along with a 30,000 mile service. Great service and they are adamant that it is now 30,000 miles not 40k?
