Order of modifications

I'm picking up my S4 in a few days. It won't be very long before I'll be paying MRC a visit for a health check etc...

I'm planning to modify the car, and was wondering what my priorities should be. I was thinking along the lines of:

1) Health check.
2) Short shift.
3) Air intake
4) Exhaust (incl decat and gut precats).
5) Remap.
6) Suspension.
7) Brakes.

Does this sound about right?

I'd move the brakes further up the list if I was you

Or your car will be eating discs and pads frequently.

Air intake is pretty much a waste of time too.

Suspension will make a huge difference and would be my number 2 after healtcheck.

As already said move the brakes up the list and depending on what type of suspension you go for, think about uprated ARB's as well as it'll stop the wallowing around corners

My order of things is looking like

1. Health Check & Remap (done)
2. Brakes (done)
3. Suspension & ARB's
4. Exhaust & Downpipes
5. Short Shift
6. Snub Mount

Although 3, 4, 5 & 6 might take place ina different order depending on when I manage to find time to fit them all as I have the bits ready to go, I just need to find the time

that's interesting. Would you not need another remap afer doing the exhaust & downpipes?

I will probably get another health check done when I get the DP's & exhaust fitted so there might be a bit of tweaking done at the time.

The snub mount stop's the engine rocking back & forth to much when giving it loads and is at the front of the engine. I'm sure someone else will correct my description if I'm wrong

Wouldn't bother with the air-intake if you mean an induction kit - too much heat under the hood; you'll just be sucking in very hot air and compromise your IATs ... just get a decent after-market panel filter, or stick with the stock paper one (you can drill the bottom of your air-box out though!)

As other have said above: definitely do the suspension, ARBs and brakes next after your exhaust & remap (exhaust before remap)

If you're going for an MRC remap then the health check is part of it (they won't map your car until the health check is done and any leaks/duff DVs/duff hoses are found and fixed)

Put the money you save by not buying the air-intake towards a DTS (drive train stabiliser) - especially if you're getting a shortshifter (they work great together)

A snub mount is a hard compound bung-type-thingy that sits at the front of your engine right at the bottom and butts up against the front of the chassis - it acts as a buffer against any engine movement in the direction of travel due to momentum/braking/gear changing etc... (I assume you mean a poly snub mount as opposed to the stock rubber one - the poly version is harder and more durable than the OEM one)

Haven't done my brakes yet!! Had a remap, Milltek full system, then fitted s/s, H&R coilovers and NEXT are the brakes!!

I have always been a champion of the standard brakes as, having never been on the track, I've never had a bad fade moment. I did, however, have a bad fade moment the other day, on the road following some spirited driving, thus they are my next mod!!

:lol: A similar type of event caused me to have a major re-think about sticking with my stock brakes: a serious "brown trouser moment" made me get some RS6 brakes installed quick-sharp ...!
