What about the K03/16 with the cutback exhaust turbine? They are said to spin slower and Jacob has said the shafts are the same in the K03's and the K04's.

Exactly. US Octane rating is an average of the RON and MON (i.e. RON+MON/2)
whereas we just get RON. T99 has a RON of 99 but a MON of 88 which is
equivalent to US 93.5......

Update

Post by MarkB » Thu Mar 15, 2007 11:12 am

UPDATE

I've been thinking about this for some time now... I got to the point of nearly going for the full K04 upgrade because of the way most on here seem to say it's the only way forward!

Then I thought... I haven't got RS6 brakes, I also haven't got Coilovers. If I go for an upgrade that gives me over 400 bhp I'm going to have to start looking at the brakes and suspension again. Currently running standard B5 RS4 kit.

SO, as much as Jacob is running what looks like quite high power with his K03/16's, to get the power he's had to make fueling changes. My thinking is... if you are going to make fueling changes you may as well go K04. Simple!

If you want to keep the cost down and don't want BIG power, then going by Jacobs comments the K03/04 will give you that bit more, taking you to near the max of the standard fuel system ~370 bhp (assuming intercoolers, downpipes and exhaust have been uprated)

I have nothing against Jacob, but it does worry me about buying from overseas so I have started make a few enquiries into get a K03/04 type hybrid built in the UK.

I'll post more details if and when I get any...

Great update Mark, keep us posted. A UK source would be great of course as would knowing that they can be sourced as an exhchange or built from failed K03s if the need arises in a reasonable time.

Well, I am dealing with Jacob at the moment. I will let you all know how that turns out. I am pretty sure others have
used him as well.

I've emailed him and pm'd him on his forum but so far no direct reply to me about buying from him. Maybe I slipped through the net, but if I can get a supplier in the UK to build them I'll be happier.

Please do let us know how you get on though. I'd be interested to hear how you get on with import duty and taxes when he returns your turbos...

Are you going to do the engine pull and all the work yourself Mark if you go ahead with the K03 hybrid upgrade?

From a mention in this thread http://www.rs246.com/index.php?name=PNp ... ic&t=60104

It looks like this company http://turbodevelopments.co.uk/ could be worth a call.

If anyone speaks to them please share, I am interested in what they can do.

I'm quite hopefull that Turbo Developments may be able to do what I want. The website stated they have a 3 day turn around which is the sort of time scales I would be wanting. I'll do some more research on them as a company and if I don't get a reply to the email I'll phone them later...

Talking to my vw specialist, who have recently built 2 MK5 Golf GTi racers, they say the turbo on the latest TFSI models, including the new S3, is based on the humble K03 and is capable of providing upto 350hp. Now, they are currently cast into a one piece manifold, but if you could get the internals into the 'classic' K03 casing, then hey presto, upto 700bhp in a twin turbo engine!
