How light is a lightened flywheel?
Re: How light is a lightened flywheel?
Re: How light is a lightened flywheel?
There are none of the above issues with my car.Another side effect of a lighter flywheel is normally a lumpier tickover (less mass to keep the engine rotating).
Sometimes it may also mean the engine will stall when dipping the clutch from higher revs. This is normaly overcome by increasing the tickover slightly.
BTW, dual-mass flywheels are standard on most of the porsche range too, except the RS. People changing to the RS flywheel generally experience the above, unless they raise the tickover.
Cheers,
John.
Any prospective "Tanoga light weight flywheel purchaser" who wish to have a test drive before they buy post here and I will oblige.
Re: How light is a lightened flywheel?
Hmm, interesting
I can't rememberthe difference in weight for the porsche RS flywheel compared to standard. Maybe the problems they have is more to do with the engine layout (flat6) and the v6 is just that much smoother that its not a problem...
So, what would one of these flywheels of your set me back ? (supply only)
Cheers,
John.

Re: How light is a lightened flywheel?
I assume that with the K04's fitted and the standard flywheel there would be just a bit more lag than with the K03's?? maybe 500rpm later pickup. Would this be realistic do you think?
I would have to say no to this, no perceptable change in the lag IMO

Not the case either, the ECU seems more than capable of countering this, certainley in my case tickover is as smooth as pre flywheel.

Re: How light is a lightened flywheel?
Just catching up with this post after a trip.
As Prawn said there is a slight metallic rattle below 2K revs but I must admit that I don't allow the revs to drop this low anymore, rather using a lower gear than normal means that I never hear this noise which, I have to say, is not intrusive anyway. And I would say that accelerating from 1200-1500 RPM in a higher gear is not that good for the engine anyhow.
I have not experienced any shudder, vibrations within the car or any other negative effects - it's one of the best mods I have done.

Re: How light is a lightened flywheel?
Joshie, has your car got one of the lightwieght ones in then? I noticed at Castle Combe it made a metallic rattling noise when you floored it.

Hi Rob,
Yes it does and it was fitted before Castle Combe. Did you hear it as I moved off along the slip road to the track?
Otherwise as I said I hardly notice it as I am rarely below 2000 rpm. For anyone interested in this mod I'd be happy to demonstrate at the next meet.
Re: How light is a lightened flywheel?
It was just as you went past on the track. Have a look at this vid to see what I mean (it's 2 meg). I thought it was your exhaust or something.

Re: How light is a lightened flywheel?
Thanks Rob and yes, I hear what you mean. Curious
I must say that there is no noise whatsoever now above 2K RPM and if anyone has any theories I'd like to hear them!

Rob usually uses the DivX codec. I'm sure he will post where to get it from.

Actually that was mpeg format with mp3 audio I believe. Should play in media player, I don't think there's a particular codec you need.

Re: How light is a lightened flywheel?
Can anyone give me a cost on a lightweight fly wheel and where to where to buy it from. Will be fitting a new clutch to my s4 soon.
thanks
