Hiya

I'm back in the area now, and after feeling like the week has been spent in petrol stations (today is the first day I haven't been in one since Thursday last week), I have managed to clock up 568 miles!

So in summary...... very good. A league away from my old Leon Cupra R in terms of build quality and functionality. A big step forwards.

The MTM remap has made a decent difference, so with 308bhp and 404Nm of torque I am fairly happy that the modifications can now go on hold until I get the haldex upgrade later in the year. A set of MTM alloys may follow, and we are 'umming and arring' about some very subtle security tints, but otherwise she's now completed.

I'll post some other photos in a minute.

Whilst I was at MTM I had the pleasure of a ride in this baby (RS2 see image below) - true old school turbo with lag and then massive surge. Great fun!!!

Image

Also looked at these as an alternative to the RS4's I had been considering. At £2155 they aren't cheap, but weigh next to nothing.

Image

The MTM remap had made a positive difference in the mid range acceleration. Off the start line there is very little discernable difference, but it was quick already so thats not a bad thing.

Tried a 0-100 yesterday and I only got 14.6 (although I am trying to be as considerate as I can to the car at present, so not revving it over 5,000rpm) - was able to use the lap timer on the dash display to time it which was handy.

One thing that struck me is how easy to drive this car is, around town its so light you'd have no idea you were in anything other than a general shopping cart.

Other than that, all pretty much as I would have expected. Does it feel 310bhp???? Not really, but then I never seem to think anything feels as quick as its supposed to be. Will be going back to get it RR'd once it loosens up a bit. Its so OVERLY refined I don't think it would ever feel truly quick. What is good though is that the missus doesn't notice when I'm caning it as all is calm in the cabin!!!

Cheers

Warren

No, I passed on the rollers as the car was too new. I have taken the average figures of the 6 cars that have been done (all were between 305 and 310).

I'm going back to have it rollered when I get the new wheels fitted (and its run in a bit).

cheers

Wise plan

Personally I wouldn't be comfortable for a redline session on the rollers until atleast 5k miles.

Any news on when your getting the wheels Warren......nice write up BTW.

Nice all round package.....I personally think the front smoked finished suit the colour perfectly....very subtle but menacing!!

Other wheel which looks very nice on the S3 is the Sportec items that AmD used to sell....they dish in nicely in the centre's.

Hi

I hung off the wheels as I was having a few 'issues' with the car that needing sorting. I was suffering what seemed to be inconsistent performance, and as I waited for the car to run in / adapt to the new map I was aware that actually the performance gains I had been hoping for weren't there.

I've subsequently had the car analysed on a rolling road at Silverstone, and it was found to be turning out approximately 282bhp and NOT the 300+bhp that MTM figures suggested. As you can imagine, this has not enticed me to go running back for more products.

I have since given the car for a whole week to Revotechnik in Northamptonshire, and they have crafted a map which means the car is now putting out 301bhp. There is a fuelling issue as the pump cannot deliver any more fuel, so Revo are trying to source me a new fuel pump from the States which should allow an aggressive map to reach well over the 310bhp mark. Forge are about to send me one of their 2.0T FSi DV's as well, because the increased boost running on the Revo map is causing the OE DV to 'chatter' under full load, so some of the boost pressure is escaping. Forge hope to have the new DV out of testing in the next couple of weeks. I have also purchased a Revo Select controller for greater flexibility and secuurity functionality.

I'm waiting to hear on the Milltek exhaust system. I am dubious as my last full system with race cats on my Leon Cupra R was good, but very expensive for the marginal gains. I am also reluctant to lose the stealthy quiet of the OE pipes, as I don't want any monotonous droning.

I am also going to speak to Dialynx about the uprated Haldex controller as the car is very difficult to launch hard from standing start. There is a split second where the front wheels realise they can't cope with the power on tap, then the Haldex system spins the power to the rear wheels. It must be costing nearly a second on the 0-60 times!!! (I'm not a traffic light junkie, its just a point of annoyance that the car is difficult to launch). The 60% rear drive of the performance Haldex controller 'should' resolve this.

Hence no new wheels or tints! Other than that I'm really enjoying the car. She's beautiful and so soothing to drive on long journeys. Loving it much more than I thought I would.

Interesting! Did Revo confirm that the issues with the fuel pump and DV were only for your car or is this a general problem that any S3 (8P) is likely to see when being remapped?

I'm looking to get mine done soon but I might hang on for a few months to see what people think of the maps from SuperChips, Revo, GIAC etc.
