This is Embarrassing - with a capital E...
My mate who is a stonch BMW fan but was really tempted with a B7 RS4, until he saw this....

I need to be honest, I am rather shocked by the gap that the BMW pulled so quickly.
I know it pretty much comes down to power to weight but why oh why can't Audi make a lightweight version...
Weight(kg) Power/weight (bhp/ton)
E46 M3 1577 220
E46 M3 CSL 1385 260
B5 RS4 1700 224
B7 RS4 1720 (Cabrio 1845..!!) 244

That cant be right surely? I thought the RS4 was comfortably quicker?
The CSL is crazy fast in comparison... sure it is not modded? There must be 1/4 times available online somewhere... mind you I suppose that favours the 4wd...

The power to weight difference is 16bhp/ton. Which is not a lot and the RS4 may have been new and I think the engine needs to loosen up but my mate seems to think it is a std CSL and having driven his std M3, it felt quite a bit quicker than my S4.
We have to assume that as someone has gone to the hassle of recording several runs, it is probably correct.
PS Like the signature...

Online figures:
RS4
0-60 = 4.51
0-100 = 10.91
60-100 = 6.4
1/4 mile = 13.1@109mph
M3 CSL
0-60 = 4.49
0-100 = 10.24
60-100 = 5.75
1/4 mile = 12.74@111mph

I would expect the CSL to be slightly quicker because it has a slightly better power to weight ratio and is 2wd.

That is not right at all. When I had a modified Evo VIII MR with 380 lb ft and 400 bhp, it just about kept up with a B7 RS4 in a straight line to 100 and then the RS4 pulled away. This is despite the Evo weighing 250kg less (1400kg).
There is no way that CSL is completely standard. In addition, the RS4 doesn't even seem to be trying...you can't hear any noise at all from it !!

I havent got a clue even the tuner hadnt, he said it was the lowest one he had ever done!!!
In my own mind i was expecting around the 400 mark with the exhaust and hi flow cats, but not 364 it is shocking!! I feel like taking the car back to Audi and saying what are you playing at!!!

It seems to go well and it went well on the trackand feels a lot faster than my b6 S4 but even so i am shocked.
He had another avant in which he took me out for a spin in to compare both cars and it felt like there was more urgency in the other car.
Any suggestions?
Oh dear, not good john, bit of a problem to take back to Audi now though given the mods.
