Strange feeling on turning

Post by Kaapse_Laaitie » Thu Jan 11, 2007 5:00 pm

Guys I need help to identify a problem with my steering (I think???) When I turn the steering and pull away, I get a feeling that the wheels or whatever drives the wheels is slipping. At the same time there is a grinding/slipping feeling on steering. Could it be bearings, cv's or anything else major?
I also get the feeling this will be costly to fix. I already have tracking rods to replace. I get the feeling someone will be able to help me.
I doing just like my wife said. Get in touch will your feelings. :bigblink:

the diff will make a noise if you turn the wheel a lot and pull off, does it on my car and dont think its a problem or at least I hope it isnt
has this just started happening or has it always done this?
have you changed the wheels/tyres recently? I think larger wheels might make this more apparant as the wheels move a greater distance for the same turn on the axle.

i think it's just the way quattro is on tight turns at slow speeds, however mine got less apparent when i had my laser wheel alignment done..

worth a try - alignment makes a big difference to the feel of the car if it hasn't been done for a long time or you've had suspension work done.

also tyre pressures make a difference to the noise

mine also does this.... just had new suspension fitted so laser alignment is on the to do list.... hopefully it makes it less noticeable.

I had no idea the problem was that common. Well is it a problem or is that just the way the car is / character???
It feels more like the wheels are about to come off on a fast pull-away.
My tyre pressure is fine (35 @ back & 37 @ front). I really need to feel the different between my car and someone else to decide whether mine is as bad as I thinks. Tracking needs to be done, but not until the tracking rods are sorted out.
I have bigger wheels on: "18/225 RS4 replica's. Could that be a factor??

If I have the car on tight lock and I accellerate you get a vibration grinding through the quattro system. This is perfectly normal - assuming you feel it through the body of the car not the steering? My 2.8quattro did the same.
