Upgrading BOSE headunit to Becker Head Unit

Post by reserves » Tue Oct 10, 2006 10:27 am

I want to keep all the BOSE system but am considering upgrading the head unit to a quality Becker, OEM look, bluetooth + hands free, ipod integration etc..

http://www.caraudiodirect.co.uk/product ... ts_id=5092

I know the BOSE has line level speaker outputs & obviously the Becker will have pre-outs.

Is there anyway to convert these to suit the BOSE amp?

Also, doubt this very very much, but anyway to hook this up to the DIS?

Cheers

R

I'm just about to buy it all now, should have it installed in a week or so.

You know this will only work with the Bose system right?

What's the issue? Does it go crazy from time to time when you touch the volume control? If so, this is a common problem and can be fixed by a UK-based company (nr Swindon) for around £70 - probably a bit cheaper than replacing the entire system (but the becker unit does look good!)

You wont need to ditch any of the rest of the system (unless you want to) the lead above will allow you to use the pioneer head unit with the existing Bose speakers/amp/sub in your car, you will need to buy a fitting adaptor http://www.caraudiodirect.co.uk/product ... 3354f54d6b to allow the pioneer unit to fit.

If you already have the head unit then you might as well put it in, cheaper than getting the unit repaired and will sound better as well.

back to that lead, the new pioneer has 2 pre outs one for fronts the other for ( subwoofer or non-fading output ) dont want to spend the £40 to find its bo good? any ideas?

starting to look easyier to ditch the bose set up, headunits mosfet 50W x 4 , enough for the door speakers and drop a 10" sub in the sparewheel and amp in the side compartment?

So did you buy the PC9-408 or the PC9-410? Did you plug them into your pre-outs? From the look of the lead I can't see how many RCA's it takes.

Thinking about it the rear speakers are amplified themselves right, so speaker lead to these, a pair or RCA's for the fronts and one pair for the sub????

PC9-408 so not the pre outs, just speaker outputs, seems all good.

went for this as that would do the door speakers nicely and if i decide on a sub and amp to re[place the bose one id use the preout from the pioneer

Nice thinking. Any pictures of your install? How's the facia plate look, any good?

Did you also buy the aerial adaptor as well?

I've ordered my Becker Grand Prix 9822 + iPod kit, just waiting for it to arrive!

head unit sticks out the dash just under an inch! bugger, the plastic end caps fit poorly, not great all round really, at the mo.

aerial plugs straight in, needed no adapter?

now im not sure if the adapters added some hiss or not, is deff clearer and louder, but my ears aint good, hope to compare it to a standard bose, 2 saturdays time
