rs4 clutch in an s4??

Post by mikecmr » Wed Oct 11, 2006 3:01 pm

what do i need and how much are we usually talking to do this?

local sports garage said they will fit it (he use to be head mechanic on alfa touring car team so knows his stuff) found the clutch on vag parts but do i need anything else?

If its too big a job do you recommend taking to mrc?

From memory, gearbox is 4 hours, I don't think you need a specialist to do it, the RS4 one is a direct fit.

Out of interest, why are you upgrading please ?

Reason for upgrade is its running rs4 turbos, so im thinking it will give way eventually and better to get it done now while i know the box etc is in good order more pre-ventative than anything else

I did the same thing at 76k miles and for the same reason but my engine was out for turbos anyway, so it was a no brainer. The S4 clutch was in very good condition and would have been fine for plenty more miles.

I'd wait for it to slip before upgrading to be honest :?:

Agreed with David - this seems to be the common view. The S4 clutch is pretty darn good. When it starts to slip then look at upgrading.

I have done 60K and am still on the original clutch. I assume they are self-adjusting so my clutch still works as well as it was when new???

165 quid from gsf carparts or 225 from vagparts seem quite good was thinking that they would be a lot more

make sure the gsf part is an original part and not a copy part.

Otherwise if its a copy part you may as well stick with the S4 clutch.

From memory a genuine Audi RS4 clutch kit with clutch disc, pressure plate, bolts and release Bearing is around £290.

One customer had a clutch problem and got his clutch replaced twice by audi - in the end it was the flywheel that warped but audi still honoured the parts warranty.

Clutch replacement is 10 hour book time but usually takes 7-8 hours.

They are self adjusting - this adjustment needs to be checked before fitting.

I am surprised the clutch is slipping unless it has had a lot of abuse, or 4k+ launches - stock s4 are usually ok for 400bhp cars.

Run an RS4 clutch in my car for 2 years No problem.. but as MRC say over 400bhp with 3K launches it slips.
