I dont mean to upset anyone with an AMD map. But the amount cars I hear go to AMD and come out dead or with plenty of problems leads me to believe that I for one would not take my car there if it was the last placeon earth.
I did consider them when I didnt know better. Since Ive heard of people complaints that have used them, Ive stayed away. I guess there maps are okay, but from what several people have said, you might as well take your car to Sainsburys or tescoes to get fixed. Its mor elikely to drive out of the car park in one piece, as they wont touch the car.
I dont doubt some people have used them for things and come out okay. but its the big jobs and lack of service or friendliness after things go wrong that in my opinion tells me to stay away.
MRC however give a great friendly service and a great price and an even better product.
I personally say that custom mapping is the way to go. MRC supply a generic map for £400. To be honest, Id say its a waste of time, and I guess MRC supply it because all the other brands supply it. Its much better to get a custom map from them for your car. Tuned for the way your car performs, and all the bits youve uprated on your car and tweaked to the way you drive.
If you were to pay MTM for that kind of priviledge then you would be paying nearly £2000 plus, just to have a custom map as the guy would have to fly from germany to come and do it.
So in a way, even driving down from scotland isnt that bad. If I lived in scotland, I would certainly drive down to MRC to get a custom remap. Not only is it the best thing all round and cannot be faulted, ubut it would make a nice long satisfying drive. We have these beasts of cars. We buy them to mod them and drive them and enjoy them. Thats the whole point. So the drive there would be nice. and the drive back after the transformation would be a hell of a lot better. And even after the fuel costs. Youve still saved money.
I was going to get an MTM remap before. Ive driven MTM remapped cars. I think a stage 1 runs at 1.2 bar boost. A nice drive. But youll be paying £850 + vat. Nearly £1000. Just for a chip to be soldered into your car. It will not take into consideration any mods done, your driving style, or how your car specificly runs. It will simply tune your car the same as the car it was custom mapped for. Thats not the same as your car, as all cars have differences.
With a custom remap, You will reap the benefits of the car being tuned to the way you drive. You want it torquey, it can be done, you want more mid range it can be done. Its completely tailor made for your car. No oe elses. And at half the price of an MTM remap, SKN remap etc, it would be silly not to go for it.
Why go into a shop and buy a suit thats labelled one size fits all. When you can have one tailored made for you that fits just perfect.
Enjoy the 2 hour drive. Thats why we have these care, to enjoy them. It might not be like poping to kwik fit for a tyre change. But its more like going shopping for your wifes anniversary present. You better get it right first time, or things most certainly wont be sweet. Kepp thing in working order. Get the custom map done. you know it makes sense.
Just my 2p
