Whoops, what have I broke ?

Post by Olly_K » Mon Aug 21, 2006 1:54 pm

Was thinking about fitting an Ipod into my B5 RS4 today, so I took the cage out of the cubby hole in the boot area. Only to find this :

And on closer inspection, it seems to have snapped off the board :

The "thing" the plug broke off from, has the part number of:

Any ideas what it is and how much to replace ? Not sure if it broke off whilst pulling the cage out or if it was already broken, haven't tried my sat-nav yet, but TV/radio/CD etc all work OK.

Many thanks in advance !

Oh dear... I am sure it is easily enough repaired though... little bit a solder and some patience get it sorted. Be delicate though!

Looks like GPS antenna lead, at a guess.

May be possible to repair

Doesn't look like you need to solder anything, but you may be able to glue the 'tabs' back in place with some araldite. Failing that, you could always gaffer tape the connector to the moddule, as they don't look like electrical connectors that have snapped.

You can see the metal bits on the closeup... it will need soldering.

Im really not into repairing it, I'd rather just buy a new one....I'm good with a soldering iron but I just havent got the time.

I also have this installed :

And i'm under the impression this is the AUX TV input, so I'm planning on getting a video Ipod and plugging it right into the composite RCA's to get the audio and the video.

Is my plan correct ?

Olly, it looks like the connector is broken i.e. the wiring loom - not sure if you can easily buy the plugs?

yup, plug you're ipod into there and set the head unit to tv then if you press mode you should hear the ipod through the speakers. similar to the way we're connecting our car-pc's in

Hi Olly,

It's the switching control box and they're £78 plus vat from VAG Parts. As far as I am aware, it sorts out the signals from the various aerials for radio, TV and sat-nav. It's a bit of a notorious week point as it's tricky getting the cage out of the hole without knocking the connectors. One of the terminals broke on mine when I was investigating a problem with my TV, you can see the photo in the following thread:
