And are rs6 hybrids the standard turbos that are in rs6's? They ported over to the S4 untouched or are they modified?
Saf, the whole point of them being called hybrids is that they are made up of an assortment of turbo parts. The benefits of hybrid turbos can typically be an increase in flow rates without any undue increase in lag. The downside is unproven reliability - not so bad on the 1.8T engine, as it's relatively easy to change the turbo, but on the S4 .......

So I guess for an upgrade from K03's its probably best to go for standard K04's right? and I should think simpler too.

Also when you say unproven reliability what do you mean by that?

RIght I thought they were called hybrids because RS6 used the RS4 K04s but they were put together in different casing. So that means, the K04's were taken from the RS6 and modified to fit into an S4 or RS4.

I guess were all waiting for Tatran Rob. lol.

Hi saf, depends on how far you want to take your car - 400'ish bhp, I don't see the point in spending £3-4k on turbos. If you want 500+ horses, then you should consider (need) the hybrids.

Regarding reliability, there's not enough of the hybrids out there with a fair few miles on them to make a judgement call on reliability.

The RS6 has it's own version of the KKK series of turbos - hybrids are not OEM, therefore you can't buy them from Audi etc...

I see. So whats the most BHP you can get on standard K04's having done all the other little bits? Like ic's, oil cooler, clutch, injectors all rs4 spec?

I thought you could get up to near 450 being reasonable. Anymore then youd need hybrids right?

Do you also know what torque levels are attainable using standard K04's (nm) and then the hybrids? even a rough estimate would be nice to know.

Thanks for all the info.

Where are best places to get them from?

K04's are good for 500bhp or so on an RS4, hence why I said 500+ for hybrids. If you stick with K04's and a remap, expect 400 or so horses. If you add fuelling, MAF, IC upgrades then you can get closer to 440, but it does start getting expensive when you add up the parts required.

yes make sure you are willing to pay the costs and some before you take apart the car in the same way that i didn't  but really should be an awesome machine with the hybrids but slapping on some k04's + remap is way cheaper

If your doing the IM and throttle body, I'd slap some NA heads on it as well. Should be another stage 3 beast of a car.

Guys - I'm just back from vacation (hence my absence from the forum) and the car is back together but unfortunately Mihnea has been off sick so it has not been remapped and running crap on std map so I've left her with MRC until next week when Mihnea will be back.

So far I have had the following fitted:

- Hot side modification to Ported Hybrid turbo's
- Exhaust manifolds for new OE ones
- All mounts
- RS4 intercoolers
- Starter motor
- RS4 Clutch
- RS4 flywheel
- Uprated fuel pump (I think Bosch motorsport one - whatever MRC recommended)
- Large injectors
- New pipework

This is coupled to dual Milltek catback and std downpipe with gutted pre-cats.

I'll keep you posted...
