My personal opinion. I think S4's ahould run on alloy size hats originally meant for the car 17 inch. Its best kept standard.

If I could afford 18's I would probably be a different opinion.

Since I read this post the other day, I too have felt the car making weird noised whilst cruising at normal speed (40mph). Feels like the car is making a rough sound when the tyres roll against the road. Or maybe you have just made me paranoid.

Oh well , off for another health check.

forget 4x4 mate. more like £x£

I just put two part worn pirelli tyres on the front of the car. 6ml tread each. Got them for £30 each so coudldnt say no to them. Waiting for back tyres to wear downa bit then going to put pilot sports all round.

By the way ZeroK66, whe you say tramming, do you mean when you out your foot down at high speeds you feel this and also when breaking from a high speed, or do you feel this constantly? Do you also feel like car has something losse about the drive? My friends car feels like that too. He said there was a change when he changed the tyres.

Did you check your tyre pressures already mate?
Also on the subject of tyres, does anyone know a good set of 4 tyres for the S4, mid priced. Set of thos pilot sports are bit pricy. How much the eagle F1's mate?

Tramming or tramlining meeans steering itself, following the road contours especially on motorways in the lorry tracks.

I run 36/38.

Mine felt terrible after fitting Clives H RS4 reps, but the tyre monkey had underinflated one of the rears, once back to correct pressure car feels planted again, checked them again at the weekend and definetly not leaking....

I've tried Fuldas (no) and Kumhos (17" and 18" feel good) on my S4 and driven a couple of other S4s shod with Pirelli (run away) and Eagle F1s (liked them).

I run 18's with 235/40/18's all round. I am currently running 42psi all round as I do a lot of motorway driving but I'm not that happy. I may reduce pressure to 32 all round and see what happens.

Rob,

What width are your rims? 8 or 8.5?

Audi recommend 36/34, however backend didn't feel right to me, when I put my toolbox in the boot it felt much better, so I added a few psi to the rears and I prefer it like that, however most of my driving is done on a/b roads.

I think they are 8 inch rims. I have dropped to 34 all round, have one trip up the motorway tomorrow, I'll increase the rear after as I'm back home again (and down the motorway) on Friday night. I must admit, I normally run tyres harder, it seems to stop them sideslipping under heavy or aggressive cornering and change of direction, however, outright grip may not be there.

when i first had mine it was similar to yours.
alignment was the main answer. but it was the rear set up which was out not the front. so 4 wheel alignment is essential!!
got to say since the H&R arb's i have had a smile on me face round most of the bends that i go round unless im
carrying someting fragile!

I run 38 front 36 rear. Any less and the handling is sloppy for me.
My original P6000s tramlined badly.

I have Uniroyal Rain sports 225/40/18's on my car. run 40 PSI front and 38 PSI rear.

Would check the rear ABR drop links for play. standard plastic units wear.
