To spice things up another friend at work is bringing his Scooby WRX STI PPP along. He's got over 300bhp and reckons he's got us both beat - nothing like a bit of friendly office banter

I know the chap at Bruntingthorpe from taking my Race car along for the occasional shakedown, and he's letting the three of us on track early morning for an hour.
I'd love to invite you all along but there are a number of reasons I'd like to keep it private for now:
1. It'll be a week-day about 09:00 so will clash with work for most people.
2. It's a favour, but if Ford come along and book the circuit for the day I won't be allowed on, so I will only know for definite the day before (wouldn't want any of you driving a long way and being let down).
3. It's not an organised track-day, there will be no marshals and consequently you'll find it almost impossible to get insurance.
4. At the moment it will be just the 3 of us and an empty track. This reduces the risk and any unforseen liability should anything happen.

If all goes well I'll see about a repeat trip for a few of us

I've been wanting to do RWYB for a while now, but don't fancy cooking my clutch at the mo', although the M3 driver reckons he's got "launch control" and wants to try it - so I dare say we may have a few standing starts at Bruntingthorpe.

...now, must phone Doug about those ARB's - there's a corner at the end of that 2-mile straight!

No worries mate, enjoy and be safe.

I'm going on our rs246 outing at Santa Pod 25/03 and one of Craig's VMAX jobs as well if I can this year.

Re: Nurburgring S4??

spencerj wrote:Hi guys

New here!! Looking to buy an S4 I currently have a Boxster S (puts on flame suit  )

I'm selling the porsche because i need something a bit more practical....

S4s seem excellent value for money, reliable tunable practical etc etc. My question is this...my friends and I are soon taking our annual pilgrimage to the Nurburgring, my buddies own E36 and E46 M3s and one has Porsche 911 (964 variant). Last year I had a BMW M Coupe (breadvan) so it was the fastest on the autobahns (only just though).

How much will I need to tune a standard S4 to keep up on the autobahns/ back roads? Will an MRC remap plus gutted pre cat be enough?? I'm thinking I still may struggle.

I'll thrash them when we get there but dont want to be the rear gunner on the way.....

You lot seem very informed, can you give me an idea? :)

Thanks in advance...
Did you get your answer here :?

Not really LOL

I thought the whole Audi vs BMW thing and especially the S4 vs M3 thing would be very well documented on here.....but it all seems a bit vague - i have found some very interesting videos on www.streetfire.net though which are worth watching!!

Seems to me that no one has raced one properly enough to be able to draw a conclusion....guess i'll just have to report the result when I have a few burn ups with my mate in his E46 m3 on the autobahn......

Let's get one thing straight, I never said I would have the beating of either car in my scoob  more like it would be interesting to see what happens..................power to weight ratio and all that.

:ban: Oyy Jonesy - get back on Scoobynet!
... nice to see you're backing down even before the tyres have hit the tarmac

Just had a quick look at the M3 conv' spec - it's 160Kg heavier than the coupe. Couldn't believe that max power is at 7900rpm! I dare say it's got to be a fairly committed M3 driver to be keeping the car in that kind of rev-range. Anyone got a power curve of the M3?

Torque wont make much difference once the M3 hits its power band and they'll rev all day at 8000rpm no probs, I look forward to the scooby losing - used to like em in the mid to late 90s but since then they've turned into.......well you guys know the rest :)

yeah, that's the thing that gets me about M3s as well. Two types of people buy them. Those that buy them because they are great cars, and those that buy them because they are an M3. In Cardiff, where I am based, almost everyone buying them is of the latter category. Bit chavvy, and getting increasingly bling-bling with each new M3 model brought out. I like the pure stealth factor of an S4. velvet-coated gold brick.... :D

ok......since the mid 90s imprezas or "Scoobys" lol have turned into the biggest chav mobile since the XR2i, i'm sick of the sight of early wrx's booting it around with drain pipe like exhausts hanging out the back and nasty whistling dump valves going off. Burberry as standard me thinks. Now don't get me wrong Imprezas are capable although since birth they've always been comprehensively blown into the weeds by every generation of Mitsubishi Evo (Spec C aside perhaps) but even you must admit they have a terrible image problem........

oh well i'm sure you'll enjoy the view of the M3 and S4 disappearing into the distance....after which you may decide to change your car......now lets talk about impreza depreciation.....

I used to have a Sapphire Cosworth in mint nick and mildly tricked up I can honestly say it is one of the best cars I have owned loads of room went like stink reasnably cheap to run, then the CHAVS could afford them (or lookalikes) time to part i'm afraid.

I may be be getting a very low mileage but needs painted black 3 door Cosworth as a project car it has been unused for around 10 years, always promised myself one and a few grand spent on it will appreciate in value mint mechanics and interior(my mate owns a bodyshop) they are quite scary in the damp mind you. :biggrin2:
