USB Vag-com not working

Post by jeffw » Mon May 21, 2007 1:06 pm

I went to use my Ross-Tech VAG-COM USB cable last night and the cable tests fine on the laptop but refuses to believe it's plugged into the car....This set-up has worked in the past and the only change is upgrading to 704.1

It appears as if there is power supply to the diagnostic port...is there a seperate fuse for the diag port ?

Any other suggestions why this isn't working ?

There is a sepereate fuse for the diagnostic port, I cant remember which one I think it's in the 20's i spotted it over the weekend while looking for the sidelight fuse
If you want to try another lead give me a shout

What kind of interface is it?

Does the LED light up when you plug it into the car?

It is a USB lead into a B5 S4. The LED light does not light up when it's plugged in.

If the LED does not light up, the power supply is not working - which means the fuse ChipHazzard was talking about is most likely the issue. FWIW, "USB lead" is not really what Uwe meant - so what does the label on the interface say?

Jeff

If you haven't found the fuse it's number 31 and is 15 amps, it also does the reversing lights, cruise control, auto gearbox & interior & exterior mirrors

It's a key-usb lead. I've quickly checked and I have reversing lights & am able to move the mirrors but no LED on the lead....Not likely to be the fuse if it does control the 12v line for the reversing lights & mirrors.

Any other ideas ?

I had this once. Found that the lead wasn't fully plugged into the car.

tried it several times and it seems to be plugged in correctly....I've used this cable before as well. Thanks for the offer of your lead Mike but I'm over at MRC on Saturday so I should be able to test lead & car there.

OK...so Doug's lead works but mine doesn't (even with Doug plugging it in). Looks like the lead is faulty.

Where / when did you buy it? E-mail us with the particulars. Note, Monday is a holiday here in the USA.
