Re: EBC Yellow Stuff
I was advised to apply a thin sheen of copper grease to the backs of the pads when installing mine to prevent this problem. They didn't squeal once.

Thanks guys, so copper grease the backside that's in contact with the Pistons I am guessing else I will wreck the disks?
Re: EBC Yellow Stuff
I used to get horrendous squeaking on my previous cars brakes, used Ceratec paste on the rear of the pads & never heard a squeak again.

Yep, a thin sheen on the BACKs of the pads. My yellowstuffs came with anti-squeal shims attached on the backs and I just smeared the grease on top of them. The shims are designed to stop the squealing but don't always work - the copper grease certainly did.hlbeckley wrote:Thanks guys, so copper grease the backside that's in contact with the Pistons I am guessing else I will wreck the disks?

As said, on the backs. I also put a very thin smear on the top and bottom edges and also a smear on the chrome retaining plate where it contacts the tops of the pads. Basically on any surface that contacts the calipers. BUT never on the face or front of the pad.

Re: EBC Yellow Stuff
I copper greased the backs of my yellows and even after 400 miles they squeal but only on slow town driving.... which is a little irritating and embarrassing....
If the dont settle down, theyre going to be frizbee'd into the bin and OEM will go back in.
They were put in at the same time as putting new discs on.... so the perfectly flat new disc surface might be trapping dust.
Cant fault them for stopping power though.

Re: EBC Yellow Stuff
I have Yellows all round. I didn't fit any of them myself though, had them done at 2 different garages, so I can;t say if they used copper grease but I assumed they did as it is a common practise.
No noise when the fronts were fitted. I had a little squeaking from the rears for the 1st 30 or 40ish miles then it stopped and never returned.

Fitted yellows myself front and rear on the b7. Always copper grease back of all pads generally even if they have shims.
Never had squeal from them. All good

Re: EBC Yellow Stuff
I believe the squeak is normal for the first app. 500kms with EBC pads. I did proper copper pasting and still had this in the beginning.
I think the conditions of discs influence greatly on this. Mine were skidded when pads fitted.

Re: EBC Yellow Stuff
Disks are about 2000 miles old so I guess pads need to bed to the surface
I think copper grease may be needed as now the are clacking a bit too
Will get there eventually
