Few issues?

Post by EuroSag » Mon Dec 06, 2010 9:59 pm

So, the RS4 Avant is starting to get old.....

1. Steering makes like a squeeling noise every now and then.
2. Brakes judder under hard(ish) braking. Discs are ok.
3. Rear end seems to be sitting really low even with empty boot.

Do you think 2 and 3 relate to DRC?

Anyone got any idea's about 1?

Cheers,

Is the squeeling on full lock in reverse?
Warped discs?
Got any pics?

1. Does the power steering work using a belt. Could it just be damp? Possible leak on to it from somewhere?

2. Have a look on here somewhere about doing a 'clean' of the brakes. A hard run followed by hard braking, then let them cool and repeat a few times. Something like that. Failing that, it's probably warped discs. Many on here have had the same issues even on relatively new discs.

3. If you've got SS+ it sits lower at the back anyway (or is this just the saloon - I forget). Any sort of suspension issue points to the DRC unfortunately. But just remember the 5y guarantee from Audi UK. If you struggle again there's a copy of letters from Jeremy Hicks knocking around on here that you could show to the dealer.

Hope that helps. Stick with it.

Sometimes, but also when moving forwards on full lock. More noticeable when manouvering at low speeds like parking in a tight spot etc...

Stick with it.

I had occasional judder but with usage it is fading out, worst case get them skimmed but you just need to work it if it is the fronts or rears. My Avant also sits low at rear compared to front but DRC pressure is just fine, just seems to be a trait with Avants. Not sure about your squeel, check hydraulic fluid level especially if you notice it in the cold.

My judder at 46k was a worn track rod end. It gradually got worse over 500miles - meanwhile I'd tried all the disc bedding stuff.

Just a thought have you checked your fluid level on the power steering. It might just be that it is going into bypass on full lock.

mine squeels slightly on full locks...a few cars i've had have done it.

given its only on full lock about twice a week, for about 5 seconds, i've not looked into it...

dont they all do it?

Simple solution - don't keep on full lock ;-) seriously though can damage the pump and says to avoid it in the manual.
However, yes mine does it too. However need to try it since having the steering rack reattached (!)
