light grinding noise from rear brake

Post by lordlip » Tue Aug 14, 2007 8:42 pm

Hi all can i please try and delve into the bottomless pit of info on here as i have developed a slight grinding noise under light - medium braking, there is also a really quite annoying squeak coming from the same drivers rear wheel . Had the car up on ramps today no obvious signs of anything whilst slowly rotating wheel there is a squeaky creaky noise (specific i know!) discs and pads only 6month old any ideas ?

All the time or just after wet weather?

All my disks make a right racket for a short time after the car has been out in the wet and allowed to dry off.

You can almost watch the rust growing!

could be all the time. Can you get access to a dti or put a stand next to the disc so when you rotate it you can see if the gap changes

Hi there, Try replacing caliper as both of my rear calipers have seized up in the past!! Causes spqueking ALL the time and grinds under braking(not heavy) This should solve your problem!!

Yes, I've had to replace both rear calipers after they seized. Common problem with VAG rear calipers

Try MRC Tuning @ info@mrctuning.com. Doug should be able to fit you in!! I can't see it being anything else as it is very common on these cars for the rear brakes to seize!
