I am guessing they are for the FIS display system.
This will tell the dashboard what the radio is doing and display the track number/radio station.

One wire will be a pos + feed
One ground
One Data Line
One Clock Line
One ENA line
One TX line
One RX line

Because I'm working on a little project of my own to eventually display info on the dashboard regarding boost pressures, air intake and whatever my new radio will be playing.
Why do they call it rush hour when nothing moves!?!

Standard S4, but not for long.

That's true on an early (analogue clock) B5 S4, but later (digital clock) B5 S4's and all B6 & B7 S4's use the CAN bus to carry this information to the FIS/DIS.

So if archboldm has a late B5 or a B6 or B7 there will be a different explanation.

Personally I never rely on colours as a guide of the function of wires in cars - they can (and do) change between model years.

So that's a B6 then? At least my May 2003 S4 Avant was a B6!

So they are not clock/data/enable DIS connectors, since the B6 uses the Infotainment CAN bus to carry that data.

Ah! So they're not Audi wiring, that's why none of us knew what they were.

doh.

very true. they do change colour occasionally. But as a rough guide the for the area it was. A good enough guess. ;-)
