INTRO
It's been a while since I started a thread on a car forum - doesn't look like anyone uses them anymore, but it’s a much better way to document your ownership, so here I am!
I sold my mk1 TT trackcar ("The Turbo Turd" , "The Turbo Hairdryer") earlier this year after i got fed up with it. It was fun, but it had an oil blowby issue that was getting worse and worse - and ultimately might've needed a rebuild to solve. No thanks.

For my next track car I wanted something VAG, AWD, with tuning potential. Also something quicker out of the box than the mk1 TT was, so i didn't need to go big turbo etc to get it to good power levels. A mk2 TTRS seemed like a good option, with the added bonus that I've never owned a 5-pot.
I also wanted to buy a car that someone else had already done some of the mods to.
This one came up for sale already APR stage 2, gearbox mapped, milltek, and wagner FMIC. It had generally been well looked after through its life and the work done somewhere reputable (The Phirm), although the most recent owner had cheaped out on a couple of things. i insisted on a dyno run before I went down to Devon....came in at a healthy 430bhp, so i got it bought.
The aim this time is a "clubsport" type build. Good on track, but still OK on the road and retaining mod-cons.

TRACKDAY 1 - July, Donington
Ahead of trackday 1, I did the following prep:
• 20" wheels replaced with 19x9" BBS CHR, on fresh Conti sportcontact 7. With spare wheel
• Brake refresh: Motul RBF 660, braided lines, EBC RP1 front pads, Bluestuff rear
• Bangin sound system removed
(Unrelated to track use, I also did some minor de-chaving; incorrectly spaced 4D plates gone and fitted a replacement rear badge)
Initial impressions :
• It's quick! Power felt good, and consistent all day
• Handling-wise it's not bad considering it's on OEM suspension with no handling mods. I'd like a more direct turn-in though
• Brakes were ok, a bit underwhelming compared to the setup on my mk1
• I enjoyed having an s-tronic and being able to keep my hands on the wheel
• Oil temps were getting high pretty quickly!
• The seats are absolutely rubbish at keeping you in place!
The best part of the day came in the afternoon when it started raining. Most cars came off the track and I got some clear laps smashing around with no bother despite the rain. Felt like I was on my own at times! Great fun.

Hot day! 30 degrees, dry and sunny.
Main change since last outing - got some new seats!
I wanted to get an oil cooler in, but my local garage weren’t willing to attempt install of the kit I bought.
Previous best (457bhp mk1 TT): 2:19 Best lap in the TTRS: 2:15

Feedback:
• Power good all day despite the heat (the mk1 would've had issues in these temps)
• Seats way more supportive
• Oil temps are definitely an issue; hitting 130 degrees in about 3 laps
• Add to that a major brake issue!
• Tyres; 30PSI hot way too low. 30PSI cold much better
Regarding the brakes; I got fed up of doing 3 lap stints (by which time oil was too hot) - so I tried doing 3 proper laps, then a cooldown, then going hard again. Oil temps were ok doing this - but brake pedal went very soft (almost to the floor)!
I've never had that before, and it was very alarming! Fortunately I'd just stopped pushing on and was starting a cooldown when it happened.
Reading up after the trackday its clear that the standard brakes (even with race pads and fluid) just aren't up to the job. They also don't get sufficient airflow.
Before the next outing - I need to get the oil cooler in and do something about the heat in the brakes. One other minor annoyance is that you can't turn off ESP AND see the oil temp at the same time. The "ESP OFF" warning on the DIS stops you seeing the oil temperature. To fix that, I plan to fit a dedicated oil and coolant gauge.
Overall though, really enjoyable day out. Car will be great once I get the heat issues sorted.

Brakes - With the pads, fluid and braided lines all previously sorted then the issue, IIRC, is likely caused by the OEM 370x32mm discs which are not "sided" (or handed) and therefore the discs internal cooling vanes are just garbage and don't cool-down the disc "properly" for anything even close to track use.
A set of decent aftermarket Discs and some ducting, with the rest of your existing set-up, should sort out the fade. However the disc size is a bit odd in that the OEM thickness is a bit "thin" at just 32mm for the 370mm diameter (usually that size would be 36mm thick) so finding a decent disc might be harder or, more likely, much more expensive.
I had a quick look at AP Racing and they don't do anything in that size but there's a few aftermarket places that do using their own discs (probably Chinese-made in most cases), therefore I've no idea how good/reliable these places are TBH -

Latest update: oil cooler (from Matt Lewis Racing) now fitted, along with a thermostat, and a dual oil/coolant temperature gauge.

The front brakes on Turbo Turd mk1 were epic; 368mm BTCC discs (with custom bells to fit the TT) and AP 9660 6-pot calipers.
I contacted the guy that I bought that kit from, and he can do the same kit for the TTRS - it’s currently sat in my garage waiting to be fitted. Reybestos ST45 pads this time.
For the rears I thought I should try to get a bigger disc in there. Unfortunately there aren’t many options …vagbremtechnic used to do a 335mm upgrade, but stopped making it. They were very honest on the phone and basically said they stopped making it as it wasn’t very good and was a nightmare to fit…they suggested just trying a higher friction rear pad with my front setup. So I’ve ordered Carbotech XP8 pads.
Finally, on the ducting - the lack of air getting to the brakes is a problem. There are NACA ducts under the car that try to direct some air into the wheel well but they don’t seem effective enough on their own. I’ve seen a couple of different ducting upgrades online. There was a chap that made this little scoop that seems to make a difference…he’s no longer around but I’ve found a guy that will try to 3D print something similar off my dodgy sketch!
