S4 rods vs RS4 rods

Post by viperbl » Fri Apr 04, 2008 10:07 pm

Ok, I have RS4 Engine, so RS4 crank ...

Got some Pauter S4 rods and S4 Shells

Here are some diameters

RS4 Rods
Big end inside diameter: 56.60mm
Big end thickness 20.12mm
Big end bearing thickness 1.37

Pauter S4 Rods
Big end inside diameter: 57.51mm
Big end thickness 20.13mm
Big end bearing thickness 1.79mm

Crank thickness where rod attaches 54mm

Now, as far as I can see, the S4 setup is not going to work?? it looks to be a different size???? Can any one confirm???

Hold on. IIRC they should fit. Maybe you got wrong bearings? Waiting for Okkim for measures : )

Slight slant on the thread. Did you get the Titanium rods. If not what id the weight difference between them and the standard rods?

Rich don't worry the RS4 are only different to run bigger bolts, both fit with the right shells, so what you have will work

Thanks guys!!! PHEW!!!

But I dont understand why my calcs look way out, it would seem that with the shells on each of them, they are still a different diameter ?? therefore more/less space inbetween the shells and the crank?

s4 rods are 0.9mm bigger, its shells are thicker by .4 to .45 , one on each side of the shaft makes up that difference.

if you were looking at old bearings your bentleys would cover the minimum thickness
