yes, a smaller plenum it is a little more, NOT "much more" responsive than my custom pieces.

but the tradeoff is the lack of air you get upstairs, where you need it -where the car dies off. especially KO4's on a stock exhaust manifold. w my manifold if you dont pay attention, the tach will bounce off the limiter. that is how much more air is flowed. so yes, not as responsive, but its pretty much a wash as it'll only be 300-500rpms laggier, but once you are on boost, GOODBYE. =D

bottomline, the standard size plenum is too small. i see a mass of people messing around w a lot of different things in search of power yet they have no idea how power is made.

bring on the air! =D

Why does a larger plenum allow more "air upstairs"?

At that volume of airflow, direct from turbo direct into head is much better surely? Why would you want to keep the plenum charged too?

Is it simply a trade off of responsiveness against high boost levels?
it is, but it isnt. high boost levels, <beep> YOU SAY? I <beep> HEAR YOU, LOL =D

the smaller plenum naturally fills quicker, but you die off upstairs -BIGTIME!
but even w a larger plenum, the response is still there (i have video evidence).

its just that the OEM manifold is TOO small, and therefore chokes off the motor. the larger plenum provides all the air you need upstairs -where the car is choked off, and then some.

"high boost" levels have nothing to do w nothing. dont know where that came from. a larger plenum wont change your boost levels. the turbos produce a certain amt of boost... all that is determined way before you get to the manifold.

Well, my only thought is that in an S4 you can achieve 500BHP on a 2001.5/rs4 manifold. You cant really run anymore power without snapping a rod... if you were planning on running RS6 turbos on RS4 engine end/stronger rods & large heads on S4 bottom end then there would be benifit...

redline is not the limit of the engine..its usually the amount of revs that the power drops off..if you can keep the power past the makers red line then it can be exceeded..but if your planning on doing this then when building your modified engine im sure your'll move the redline up a little higher in the rev range..

also... the redline is the maximum sustainable revs..... sustainable meaning the engines were tested at the redline for X hours.... not just he occasional blip everynow and then through the gears....

The larger plenum acts as a "boost store" so youll get slighlty more air in the cylinders as higher revs
