4 spoke MFSW swap to 3 spoke paddle shift - what do I need?

Post by WozRS6 » Wed Apr 19, 2017 7:45 pm

Hi guys,

I have a 3 spoke paddle shift RS6 wheel I want to swap for my dated 4 spoke MFSW. I'm going to be getting it done but could do with your help.

Is it a big job?
What do I need?
Do I need to purchase anything else?
Any horn, fixing, wiring etc that I need to know about?

This is the wheel I am putting on -

Help would be much appreciated:)

Thanks
Warwick

Just a Vagcom since you're going from hi-spec to base model spec.

Thanks. So will the paddles be fully functional too? No airbag issues or anything?

You will be able to code the slip ring for the paddles. Airbag is the same, IIRC. Should be fairly straightforward.

Didn't Amar do this? Thought he needed extra parts (more than just the steering wheel)?
Either way, I don't blame you for swapping it. I take it you'd had enough of bringing your food back up every time you sat in the car?

Dunc, you can have the other 40k mile one, bloke is in Brum. I'll send you the details if you want. I also picked up a new steering wheel badge from Audi, it cost £30!! The parts guy couldn't believe it, they said it was £25 but then slapped VAT on there. I hate it when people quote plus VAT. Just waiting on my slip ring and a connector plug and I can get this bad boy on. Not had a lot of interest in the four spoke!
He mentioned a ew slip ring and connector plug. Grizz said there was only 1 slip ring on etka for both 3 spoke wheel and the poverty spec 4 spoke though. Don't know what the connector plug is?

Hmmm. There are a few different part numbers for the slip rings.

1J0 959 654 AL for the MFSW.
1J0 959 654 M for the 3 Spoke.

Maybe my recollection that the MSFW one can do both is false. You might need a 3 spoke slip ring.

I think all the information you need is here:

and here:

viewtopic.php?t=67012

I think I was thinking of the control module relay which the 3 spoke doesn't use.

Hi guys,

Thanks for this. Seems like a massive headache!?
I don't know where to start really. I'm going on a a long trip in the car mid May time and I want to get this done but it's not looking good.

Where I can take it once I have the parts is another matter.

There is a slip ring (used) on eBay from a parts seller in Germany for £115. What do you reckon?

Forgive me, I'm hopeless from a mechanical standpoint

And yes Chunky, id had enough of throwing up all over the dash haha

If you're going from the 4 spoke to the 3 spoke you'll have to give up wearing tartan slippers and pipe smoking.

I've already taken them to the charity Shop ;)
Thanks. Nothing on there though currently.

So 4 spoke does not have paddle shift ? Did I see that correctly ? Only base model has paddles ?
