Changing MFSW steering wheel to three spoke

Post by Mr V10 » Wed Mar 28, 2012 4:21 pm

Not as easy as I thought, turns out I need some sort of 'slip ring' can someone get me a part number or a source for one? My new wheel doesn't come with it. Also, will I need anything else to make the new three spoke fit?

Amar, get Etka because as much as I enjoy being a part number bitch, at some point in life the small ones must leave the nest and fly, fly...

Piece of p1ss to change the wheel. The only irritating bit is getting the airbag off. You will need to insert your tool (long and thin is better) into each orifice in the back. You'll feel something pop and then you can get it off. Don't push too hard, you don't want it to explode in your face.

Bam, I brought my game. Gauntlet firmly picked up.

Genuine laugh out loud there, So you clocked on when I asked for 'someone' to get me a part number, I actually meant you Shop - The part number biatchh. It was fun whilst it lasted :(
Etka, I tried installing that a few times, apparently my monitor wasn't big enough so I gave up after a few attempts :)
Anyway, it looks like the same slip ring anyway, so (hopefully) I'm sorted. Will update here as soon as I know.

Got myself a new part number bitch, Kevin, in my local Audi parts dept. After a lot of umming and ahhing and giving him Amanda's reg number, he confirmed I needed a different slip ring. He thought they were the same too like Grizz untill I gave him my reg vs Panda's, then he could see there was in fact a difference.

So if you are changing your four spoke multi function steering wheel to a three spoke, you need a new slip ring too. Which is part number.

1JO 959 654 M

The part number for the multi function steering wheel slip ring is

1JO 959 654 AG (Which I have available, PM me)!

The new slipping costs £240, which is cheap to get rid of the TDI steering wheel, I'd pay more. Anyway, I've got a brand new airbag, RS6 steering wheel badge (£25.03) from my local dealer and the slip ring all on their way now, this is possibly going to be the best mod I will ever do to the car, so I'm happy. :)

This mod gets more and more complex the more I delve into it. I'd love to meet the git that specc'd my car from new, at least he got the colour right.

You also need this connector

4B0 973 605 £4 something from Audi, but they can't give me a lead time. I want this in asap. :(
