Should I be worried
Should I be worried
This afternoon cruising on the motorway back to the office the yellow engine shaped light to the left of the intstrument cluster illuminated and hasn't gone off.
Car seems to drive ok and rev (no limp home etc) in both normal and MRC mode and oil and coolant temps ok...I don't have Vagcom so anyine got any ideas ?

Re: Should I be worried
get it scanned ASAP
Re: Should I be worried
EML could be anything from something simple to something expensive. As aka_dk suggests get it checked not worth taking any chances.
Re: Should I be worried
where are you, someone near might have Vag Com
Re: Should I be worried
In Dublin - have rung stealers and they are going to have a look on Friday. Have never had this before and only thing I have done differently recently is that I put a Millers Eco injector cleaner in the petrol rather than my usual Redex at the weekend. Have been told its ok to drive if warning sign is yellow but don't use if it turns red

Re: Should I be worried
Do you have audi breakdown? if so give them a call
Re: Should I be worried
Don't think it turns red but flashes if serious problem.
The petrol cleaner could be causing some misfires which have tripped the warning.
You may find the light goes away if the fault condition issappears.
You don't need Vag Com for this - any obd reader from ebay or halfords should be able to pick up the standard codes that cause the MIL light. Whilst not as much data as a Vagcom scan it will tell you roughly what's going on and if it's a problem to be concerned about.

Re: Should I be worried
If you have Audi Roadside an actual Audi tech will come out and diagnose during the weekday and normally clear the codes if it is not too serious. Take it to the dealers and they'll charge you an hours labour plus VAT for diagnostic.

Re: Should I be worried
Good call there by P_G I'm pretty sure the AA and RAC if you have cover will also be able to read the fault codes on an OBD II reader
Re: Should I be worried
Had the very same light on last week, it turned out to be a coilpack failure covered under warranty. Would of cost £120 if not for a £20 part

Re: Should I be worried
We don't have Audi assist over here AFAIK.
Yoda - Am guessing coil pack problem on yours would have tripped limp home mode ?
It's a weird one, car is running very well indeed after the c.260mile motorway run yesterday - unfortunately yellow light still on this morning.
Will update once on Friday once I get a view from the stealers.

Seriously - its less than 20 quid for an odb reader from any automotive Shop.
It can be anything from a fuel issue, misfire or emissions.
It can also be a small error reported frequently enough to trip the light.

Re: Should I be worried
Audi ran the diagnostic and found fault codes for running rich on both banks. They cleared the fault and test drove it and faults did not return. They (well they would) put it down to the remap....my suspicion is the Millers stuff that I used as never had that fault before even after 2 years of a remap.
Anyway - the car always seems to run like a scalded cat after a service
