Bilstein PSS9 Coils.. Is anyone unhappy with them?

Post by rharris » Fri May 08, 2009 11:41 pm

Although I don't have an RS6, my ar is based on the C5 body style and has similar weight. I am having difficulty getting the rear coilovers setup properly.
The ride is too bumpy. When I hit bumps or small undulations is the road, the rear wants to bounce\return to normal height too forcefully. It's like to rebound is too great no matter how stiff or soft I adjust them. I am also running H-sport swaybars, so that may something to do with ride.

I can't say that I've ever been in a vehicle where the rear ends responds the bumps and dips like such. Thoughts or comments?

I have PSS9s and they are fine by my reckoning. The ride height is about 1 inch lower than stock and they work fine for me on setting 4 front and rear. Can't say I have noticed any forced rebound. Maybe you were used to knackered DRC for too long.......

I had the same issue although I am using H&R and Hotchiks sway bat set in hard. Handling is great but it is a bit rough on b-road and bad surface.
Anything to do with the ride height or would it be better if I set the sway bars back to soft?

I don't think the sway bars have anything to do with the softness/hardness of the ride - they only prevent roll in corners.

try setting your rear's to 9 on the damping and leave the fronts.

Update

Post by rharris » Tue May 12, 2009 1:17 pm

I've played settings a bit more. I set the rears too full soft which removed most of the strong rebound when going over bumps or hitting small undulations in the road. Of course, now that I've done that, the suspension is too soft. Since then, I returned the rears to 1(Full stiff) and I'll have to live with it.

I must that I've not driven or been a passenger in any vehicle(porsches, Vettes, 350z, A4, S6, Benz, chevy) in which the rear suspension responds like mine with hitting bumps. Also, I think the rear springs are too soft, even with the adjustable dampening.

I've never heard of any problem like this. Could the problem be coming from elsewhere maybe?

Bit worried about this because I'm waiting to put mine on.

Is it an Avant or saloon? Coud it be you've got the avant suspension on a saloon? Or is it the same kit?

Were they installed properly? - if I recall the stock bump stops should not be used with the PSS9s as they have their own so if they were left in they would influence the compression/rebound.
