Ran VAG on my car. Found reference: SPORTEC ST01/02

Post by R12 » Sun Jun 08, 2008 9:57 am

Is this a normal reference under Engine Electronics or does it mean my car has been pampered by Sportec (i.e. tuning) at some point in his life? I'm curious since I did not expect to find anything beyond Audi or Bosch references there.

What blocks should I measure to get a definite answer if my car is stock or not? What values should I expect from a stock car on these blocks?

TIA

Sounds like you must have had it remapped at some point.

Mine says MRC when I scan the Engine module.

You don't mention what car you've got.

Where exactly did you find that?

I scanned for DTC's, and it's in the 1st line of the first ECU read (Engine Electronics):

SPORTEC ST01/02 G 0001
DTCs: 0
P/N: 8D0 907 551 K

Interesting, as I've also had my car remapped by MRC as well, however VAG-COM displays mine like this

To be more specific, I use VAD Mobile (software app used to be ProDiag via Shade Tree Software). Output lines may differ slightly but it has equivalent functionality. I used the same app when I had my B5 S4, and the references in any of the ECU's which showed anything related to a brand was either Audi or Bosch related. That's why I venture guessing my car may have undergone remapping.

What blocks can I meassure to be certain? I know boost (actual v. requested) but I don't remember which block was that (115?), and the other is 122 which shows torque.

R12: your car has Sportec software for sure, no need to check anything else, sportec are the only ones who use that denomination in VAG ID fields.

As for our (MRC) software, in general we keep it discreet and it doesn't display anything other than stock ID's when checked with VAG com ;)

Probably I'm Stage 1 then. I will still check blocks just to make sure I'm not Stage 2 since the car has stock exhaust. Do you know if the ECU is constantly in this new remapped state or does Sportec have the type of software where you can actually activate it/desactivate it at will?

Some tuners do alter the component field to represent their modification, others alter the control module part number or the software version. IMHO a tuner should make it obvious i.e. by altering the software version. For example ABT does often do it like this...

Address 01: Engine
Part No SW: 4F9 ABT 401 L HW: 4F0 907 401 C
Component: 3.0L V6TDI G001AG A020
Coding: 0011372

(Notice the ABT in the part number as well as the A020 instead of 0020 for the software version.)

Does Sportec have the type of software where you can actually activate/deactivate at will? For example, toggle between Stock and Stage 1 by using the cruise control buttons.
