RS6 - EPC light and traction won't turn off

Post by ASHRAF » Sun Sep 27, 2020 10:46 pm

Hello and good day everyone,

I've recently bought a used, stage 2 RS6
I've been a huge fan of them but never found the right car until now

So, the car was in the showroom for a while and after I bought it.

The car is a 2015 RS6 with 50k kms on it (in the Gcc countries, it was still pre-facelift)

Issue 1: as soon as I drove off, an EPC light popped up and restricted the revs to 4000 RPM, restarted the car that night and it was fine
Went for a second drive that evening, and after driving it for a little bit it popped back on, then went off on its own without shutting the car down πŸ€”

Speculation: I thought it might've been due to the car sitting for a while, and maybe the battery is weak. So I took it for a long drive and things seem to be normal, will know more in the near future I guess.
Or am I missing something?

Issue 2: the traction does not turn off
I press the button, the traction light does light up on the dash, as soon as I let go, it turns off. Tried holding it for a while and it did not do anything different πŸ˜…

Speculation: diff issue?
I raised the car up, put it in drive, and all 4 tires were turning. I also glanced at the ABS speed sensors visually. Nothing seems to be disconnected or loose, and no wires seemed to be damaged.

I thought I'd ask on the forums to see if anyone faced a similar issue, and would point me in the right direction as to what to do or inspect.

Thank you all
-AJ πŸ‘‹

Just to clarify, traction does not turn off, even when the EPC light is not on

IIRC an "EPC light and restricted the revs to 4000 RPM" is a warning that there is an engine management warning - possibly low fuel pressure in one line. You need to get it logged, then clear the codes, and see what comes back.

Possibly if it has been standing a long time it may just need a good run to clear a filter somewhere.

Thanks Dave,

So took your advice, pulled the codes today, there were many codes, mostly caused by low voltage, the battery needs to be charged up or replaced I guess. Will plug the ctek and see what happens πŸ‘ Also been driving it around so that should help too

There was one code that was saying camshaft position not matching the ECU command or something of that sort. Maybe a sensor? Who knows?

Cleared the codes, ran the car for a bit, floored it, and logged it. The deviation in timing is slight and it didn't through any codes after that. I'll drive it for a short while and see what comes back πŸ˜πŸ‘ just thought I'd update anyone that may have a similar issue

The traction was not turning off due to ABS code stating that the voltage was too low. After driving the car for a while and clearing the code, it can now be turned off πŸ‘

Problem "solved" for now, but I'll update this if any related issues pop up
