Wheels changed giving error message on DIS

Post by Ozzyz » Tue Mar 28, 2017 8:22 am

Since I've changed my wheels I have kept on getting this error message coming up on the DIS screen. I checked the manual and it's saying the message can come up when the sensors doesn't recognise the new wheels or if the wheels do not have the TPMS, which mine do not.

Has anyone else had this symbol come up once changing wheels? Image

If you have no sensors it will think the tires are flat I presume
Think you will need coding to disable them

Yep, you'll just need to code them out. Do you have a VCDS cable?

Not sure what you are looking for? You've got a message for no TPMS and you have no TPMS. Everything working as it should.
Incidentally I'd have expected a non communication error rather than a flat tyre symbol; from memory it says TPMS in red letters, but if you've checked the manual and that's what it says you are all good.
If you are asking how to get rid of it, Jony has the answer, you need VCDS to change the coding. Or buy some sensors for your new wheels. Or live with the error.

Oh that's ok then, I'll just keep and eye on the tyre pressures in that case.
I don't have VCDS to code it out unfortunately

I was asking if anyone else has had the same symbol come up when they've changed the wheels over as a lot of guys on here have different wheels on their cars.

I had the same its easy enough to cancel the warning if you get chance to use a VCDS

Mines the same after I changed to 20's. Still not got around to coding it out yet. New tyres going on next week so I'll sort it then.

for info. - to code out the TPMS warning, in VCDS:

Select -> 17-Instruments -> Adaptation -> Channel 61.

Subtract 512 from whatever value you find there.

i had the tpms taken out of the original wheels and put in my new wheels, never got a message code, worth a try

I had the exact same symbol when my TPMS antenna died so I think the DIS doesn't have a massive repertoire of symbols. TPMS for TPMS failure would be much more helpful but at least on some DIS (mine is 06) I don't think you get this.

I thought when I put my 20s on I got a red TPMS on the DIS until i got some new sensors fitted. Could be wrong but that symbol above doesn't look familiar.

Others have mentioned TPMS but I have only seen the tyre symbol (also red when flat) so I think it may depend on the car or possibly even the actual error it sees.

Maybe red indicates a puncture and yellow is a drop in pressure but yellow with a line through it means no signal from the valve sensor to the receiver. Obviously due to the new wheels not having them.

That could well be it - I have had red and yellow before for low pressure but don't remember if had the line through it - would make good sense if not. I definitely had yellow with the line through it when the antenna was down so no communication just as the OP has with no sensors nearby.

Edit - looked in the Quick Ref and there it is - Yellow tyre with a line through it = Tyre Pressure Monitoring System not available & Yes Yellow and Red Tyres with no line for Loss of Tyre Pressure or Tyre Pressure too Low.
