NO, that will only fit the B6 & B7 model A4's(2001 and later)

You need and RNS-E for a C5 A6 - it will have the prefix 4B0 not 8E0 (an 8D0 version of the RNS-E was never made).

i'am probably better off finding a 2001 a4 or a6 and doing a dash transplant....?

No, trying to complete a dash transplant would be a massive job, and I don't think it would fit.

To retrofit fit RNS-E into your car, would require the following parts

Double Din Centre console
Double Din Cage
Double Din Air Con unit (I think you could get one form ebay)
Double Din gearstick surround
Double Din ashtray (Not required if you don't smoke)
Audi Navigation Unit (A6 Version)
Wiring harness with can-bus
GPS Antenna
Switches (hazard waring etc)

It's not a massive job and an be easily complete 4-5 hours

ahh. that does n't sound too bad like that. so if find a 2001 a4 in a breakers. i shoud get all the center console and all the switches and some radio wiring. then go from there. thank you TDiAvant.

Don't take any of the wiring, all you need is one of these iso to quad lock adapter with can-bus

can-bus is the communication for the car. The infotainment can-bus which is used for the navigation, gives information like ignition on/off, lights on/off, time, speed (A3, A4 B6/B7) information to the DIS, communication to the phone system. If you don't have can-bus then the RNS-E will not work. The adaptor show able is just plug and play, but my guess is the diagnostic wire is missing in your ISO connectors so you need to connect the wire..

Just so you know speed is not present on the B5 A4, so the A6 Navigation unit get the speed from the gala wire.

That's no good - it's for an 8E (B6/B7) A4 and won't fit the 8D (B5) A4 that g60bv has.

cheers guys. which head unit is the one to go for. they all seem to have slightly different numbers and seeing as there close to 500 quid, i cant afford to get the wrong one.!
