In demist mode it will almost certainly turn off any recirculation and draw in outside air. So, yes, it may well get colder at first.

Fuck - there was me thinking my DIY banger 1999 A4 was bad for this?!

I get into pretty much the same routine.... temp hi, fans high, hit the 'up' button to direct air at the windscreen vents (this was a front windscreen button on my B6 iirc) heated rear button on (which does side mirrors too as mentioned above)

And a trick I learnt 10+ years ago with my 205 GTI.... before you park up and leave the car, pop the drivers window down for the last 30 seconds of driving. Replaces warm moist air in cabin with cold air = less condensation overnight

At least being an old school 2.8 petrol it defrosts fairly fast!

4.2 S8 is never a problem, even when I've got scuttle drains full of water and the inside is dripping in condensation. :boohoo:

Yes - when I commented to my best mate that my 4.2 S4 used to warm up quickly, he answered it was a bit like setting bank notes alight haha!

Very strange to see this B8 struggling?

Moonigan - maybe try temp high, fans high, heated rear, but *don't* press the front screen button tomorrow, see if the cabin warms up faster?

Sadly nothing to report as for some bizarre reason my car was untouched by the overnight frost despite being parked in the same place.

Moonigan - this morning I started my car for a few minutes before I left for work, buttons/fans set as described above, and when I got in to drive it to work, I didn't touch a single button and drove to work.

I can confirm (on my old school B5 at least) if you have the fans directed to the windscreen, with the temp on max, the car 100% blows hot air (hotter as the engine warms up etc)

There is no need to go to this extreme, cars with AC or CC, get in, start up, press one button, screen demist, that's it. Modern systems are cleverer. If you have no AC then its different, you need a bit of warmth to dry the air, in that instance cracking a window also helps expel moist air thus drying out the cabin environment quicker.

If the one button method doesn't work on a B8 then Audi need to be involved, I have a video of mine de-icing and de-misting in under 8 mins from absolutely cold startup with a frozen screen.

(I should add, I only let mine run for the last two mornings because it was frozen solid!)

First frost for a few days this morning so I tried the one button technique and within 10 mins the screen and side windows were clear. Thanks for all the help!! :thumb:

Auto button? Or front windscreen demist button?

Clad to here it worked, as I said its all I ever do.

Modern cars have a lot of effort put into the design of them, both function and aesthetical to make these systems work as they should and look good.
