Believe it's the one Matt bought previously ( in the link he provided in the other thread). It's £26 delivered, but looks like a repro rather than OEM.
Thanks to Nick's link, I took a punt on one of these last week as the front passenger side was on the way out for a while now, to the point where you could only close the door very gently/slowly for it to always close/lock.

SJB Autotech fitted it for me today while she was in for a engine/Gearbox service and reported no problems whatsoever and that the part worked fine when I spoke to them. The front driver side has given a couple of death rattles with madam recently, where it wouldn't unlock for her but gave me no problems so far, so I want to get the driver side copy version and ship it to SJB while she is there as better to be safe than sorry and cutting up the door cards.

I am going to email the seller, but do you girls think that this (from the same seller), would be the matching driver side version of the above? - http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Front-Right-D ... SwubRXNuSZ

I reckon it is but worth checking regardless, thanks.

I had one of these before Xmas and although the lock it's self seems OK. It doesn't activate the interior light and occasionally the door is difficult to open

Hmm, that is both interesting and potentially annoying. However, she is at the Garage currently so will get one put in and see. If it is plop I will get an OEM one.

Fingers crossed Matt ;)

I'll be sure to check mine out - as I did with the previous LH one. It's actually the interior microswitch that's prompted the change.
As it is at the moment, I can unlock the car, open the door, close the door - and it will automatically relock since it doesn't think I opened the drivers door at all.

I'm also replacing the rear boot catch - since if it doesn't 100% latch shut, the handle won't open it - have to nudge it shut with something soft (my arse) before I can open it properly again. A bit of googling told me this was the catch that had failed - although in this case I could only find genuine, although it does seem to be quite a common failure. All boggo standard A6 stuff fortunately.

ETA - this thread (post #4) describes the symptom I have on the boot.

THIS!!!!!!!!

I had totally forgotten about the fact that it is a separate microswitch issue, if memory serves Daveperc has replaced that too at least once over the years. I just remembered this 5 mins ago and am going to phone SJB to get them to add that on as well as it works intermittently.

Just spoke to them and they reckon that will be sorted by replacing the lock tomorrow, guess that means it it inside the main mechanism then, I forget stuff these days.

I fixed one of those door locks the other day. It was from a Golf 4 but the mechanism is almost identical. Just needed re-soldering and cleaning up inside. They come apart quite easily. It's possible to change just the microswitch, too, if that's borked.

Thanks, but to confirm (without going to all the time and hassle of searching the forum of course ;)), the microswitch is inside the main mechanism that I am replacing yes? I can;t see why it wouldn't be now that I have actually thought about it.

The whole mech folds apart like a book and one side has the microswitches in it with a plunger / cam lever that operates the microswitches when the key is turned or the mech operates or the door opens / closes. You can also test the operation of the microswitches with the Vagcom.

Cheers, read that thread I linked to and have come to the conclusion after seeing a pic too, that if the specialist somehow doesn't get it right first time I will sort it myself.

He did. However, Audi stealers have wised up. Apparently the practice of customers/victims pre-lubing was lowering Audi staff morale, so they commissioned a leading consultancy to sort it out. Their solution was to issue all Audi staff dealing with customers/victims with a mircofibre cloth and citrus spray. The official procedure is to degrease and dry the customer/victim thoroughly before 'going in dry' to extract their money via their rectum.

How do they punish you then? Your ring is so slack (so i've heard) the above wouldn't bother you.

I use Indies, it's a more personal service, it's all foreplay, sweet-nothings whispered and high-quality reach-arounds. You should know that, your mum has taught tool craft and customer handling to all of the UK's top Indies.
