Privacy glass in a black RS4

Post by OscarH » Tue Feb 28, 2006 10:33 pm

Gentlemen,

I own a black RS4 with black interior and think the car might look even nicer with some privacy glass in there. My questions are:

1. Do people generally agree privacy glass is a good thing
2. How much will this set me back
3. Any good places to get it done
4. Can anyone that had it done post pictures

All input welcome, I am at a very early stage in considering this and may decide to never put it in, but interested in views/thoughts/experiences.

Thx! Oscar

I like it, I put it on my S2 to hide the TVs in the back.

Cost wise I paid £250.

I know it aint an RS4 but here you go anyway

Oscar, Croft motors have just sold a Black RS4 with Hi-Tec interior and blacked out windows. Here's the link to the pictures on their site:

http://www.croftmotors.co.uk/vehicle-de ... 1&ID=49983

The pics don't do it justice.... it was one of the meanest looking vehicles i have EVER seen - I was at Croft a month or so ago and had a good look round it and sit in it etc.

To be honest, it was a bit too pimped up for my tastes with the blacked out windows..... it would have been really "eyecatching" on the road, which is not what i want, personally. However, as something of a contradiction, i have to say that I thought it looked fantastic with the windows like that.... and if i had a garage and a personal security guard to leave in the car when i go to the shops etc, i would be there like a shot!

Summary - looked great, but not if you want to maintain the stealth of your car. It makes a black one look VERY mean :D

HTH

Tim

I have privacy glass in my Avus, it was in when when i got it and to begin I thought it was a bit naff, for the reasons mentioned by flossy, but now really appreciate its benefits.

I've thought about getting mine done too. Have a pal with a black freelander and he has graduated tint and I think that looks really spot on (for a tractor!) Nice from the inside too.

... Paul.

Will you do the lot or b post back? I got the wifes 3 series touring done from b post back to protect the little one from the sun. It does look pretty mean, but it's obvious we're not trying to pimp it as the fronts have no tint on them.

Obviously forward of the b post is illegal also :D

I had light tint film on mineral grey quartz RS4 all windows. Just took it down enough imo. Could have also (legally)got away with medium tint allround but anything darker would have meant b post back only. Not my cappaccino. Company was Tint Haus. Operate nationaly I believe.

Didny know you could retro fit smoked/privacy glass.

Thx guys. I must say Tomson's looks very nice. What does the law say about tinting all the windows though . Can you or can't you?

Also, I saw one qoute of having spent 250 quid on it. Any other experiences (in the south east)?

B pillar forward, the law says no - as the window is already factory tinted, any aftermarket tint will take you under the minimum light transmission level. However, with a subtle tint I think you'd be unlucky to get stopped...

My tint is very light, getting darker as you go towards the rear.

I have the lightest possible grade on the front windows, IMHO you need to get the fronts done as well, if not on a black car it would just look like an RS4 van, which would be not so good.

Brother in law commented on it the other day, saw me coming out of a petrol station (for a change!) and although the tint is very light he said it looked completly blacked out - very cool. Depends on sunlight etc etc..

I got pulled at a road side check, they are looking out for the illegal tints, prohibition notice served with ten days to put it right with obligatory check miles away. The logic is strange, officers want to see in the car when approaching it but dont seem to be bothered about what`s in the back!
