I think it will be proably due to the fuel being transported from refinery to the forcourt, it may get taken there in a tanker that previously had a different lower grade fuel, or slight manufacturing variations batch by batch when it is mixed..... hence below grade fuel.
If you look at the Greenergy site they have two grades of the 99 Ron, a prevailing grade and a motor sport fuel batched in controled drums.

Is Shell Extreme the same as Shell V Power..?
No, the V Power is the U.S. version of optimax it would seem, however it only has an octain rating up to 93, so not as good as our optimax.
It is probably a MON rating of 93 so it will be comparable to what we have here which is RON rated.

Always wanted to know this... are petrol stations/suppliers regularly inspected? Often stood at the pump paying a quid a litre and wondered if I was actually putting in the stuff that I thought I was.... Must be huge opportinity for corruption?

that may explain why sometimes you get 'bad tanks' of optimax.

Did you read the Evo testing a couple of months ago?

They suggested that busy stations were the best to use as fuel goes off quickly

Trouble is also that when the tank is refilled, the crap at the bottom gets mixed up again. So with busy stations you're more likely to get a tankful with crap in!

The solution is to go to the station and park outside. Wait for the tanker to arrive and watch the fuel being put in. Talk to the driver and ask to check the paperwork to ensure it is the right fuel. Then wait in your car for 12 hours to make sure the crap has settled. Then buy your tank of fuel.

Or alternatively you just fill up and worry about more important things in life...

Or just get your own fuel station,....... which is proably not such a bad idea given how much the RS likes to drink to keep me happy!!!!
Any one interested in a share???

I like that idea K2!

Perhaps we could negotiate a special deal with Millers pre-mixed and everything ;)

LOL @ Dippy.

If you are really paranoid you can by an octane analyser for about 8-10K and check the fuel at the pump before you put it in.
