I got made redundant a little while ago and to be honest have been enjoying a little holiday with quality time with the wife and kids and time to go to the gym which I never seemed to have before. I'm back on the job search front now and have had a couple of interviews this week, so hopefully will find something soon.
The reason for my post is that I have just had to renew the insurance on my old MK1 Golf GTI and thought I had better tell them about my change in status (honesty being the best policy of course....). I was a bit surprised to be told that this would load the policy by 30%. Worse news was that if I am no longer allowed "drive to work" cover on the car, which means my wife couldn't have the level of cover without re-insuring it in her name. Anyway still trying to sort this out. Insurance due on Sunday

Thought I had better talk to my friendly broker about my S4 insurance. Sadly no longer such a friendly broker as he was uncertain whether my insurer would wish to continue to insure me as they certainly don't take on the "unemployed" as new business. Am about to send my certificate back to have the business use removed and don't know if they will actually send me back a new certificate or cancel the policy...
To be honest scary stuff and a bit of a downer after a good interview yesterday.
Nowadays redundancy is pretty common and I am pretty lucky to have avoided it up to now. Rather worrying to realise that if you are made redundant you may find that your insurance will be instantly void!! Not the first thing you may be thinking about at that particular time!
Cheers,
David
