Removing fog lamps

Post by DuncS3 » Sun Apr 06, 2003 4:51 pm

Some of you RS4 chaps have removed your fog lamps havent you? is this to help cool the brakes?

SitaS3 and I were comparing the heat of his new calipers yesterday after a slow run up the road - god knows what they must get like on the track

It got us discussing removing the fog lamps - I never use mine...

Hey Dunc, we've removed the fogs on our RS4's (and S4's) to give a better flow of air over the intercoolers - car performs much better on trackdays

Not sure on the position of yours, but I know you have the vents (like us) in the inner wheel arch, which if opened up could improve airflow to the brakes - let us know how you get on

Arn't the RS4 and S4 fogs mounted behind the grill in the bumper...

not in the grill like the S3.

not so easy for us Dunc, cosmetically speaking.

it would be better if we could move the intercoolers - maybe combine into a single front mounted one. Problem with our cars (S3) is that the air moves through the intercoolers, then thru the vents Andy's talking about - by which time the airflow is restricted (and warm...) - also a further problem is lack of space up front.

Did you notice how hot the wheel was Dunc? i did and I shall be monitoring this.. Cars - one bloody thing after another.

I've also read that a front mounted i/c helps to prevent pressure drop between the turbo and engine.

can you get a FMIC for the S3? I know you can for the TT...

failing that, lets all move to Iceland

btw, i know AMD were talking about a fmic for the S3, but maybe also take a look at Star Performance - they even do one for the Golf 1.8T

Go on, your turn to spend some money.

Forge and Stratmosphere make the FMIC for the TT 225hp (see attachment) so maybe they have them for the S3.
