Failed boot electrics

Post by Wavey Dynamicist » Mon Sep 22, 2025 11:31 am

A couple of years ago, the electrics to the boot lid failed - brake lights don't operate, central locking does not release the lock, and the bulb in the boot does not light.

I had a repair of unknown specification done at CamSpec, which worked for some time but the issue has now returned. I'd love to fix or at least diagnose the issue myself, but no clue where to find wiring diagrams or even where the loom to the boot passes through.

Anyone else had this problem and can run me through your solution?

Nice one.

Boot wiring harness repair kit should solve it.

I had the same and it was a bad ground wire. Stripped back the loom and was a pretty obvious break. Known faulty area and happens commonly. I fixed it temporarily and put some loom tape over it. That's held up for like 2 years now though. Have bought a repair kit similar to above for when the job properly needs doing.

Pretty sure searching here gave me the info I needed to tackle it myself.

Thanks for digging that out. Searching 'boot electrics' didn't present that thread strangely. I don't get any malfunction indications on the dash strangely, so i wonder if the issue is slightly different.

Any feeling on how difficult it is to get access to the routing for that loom if i want to replace it?

Thanks

Literally just open the boot and it's the loom on the left. Can see the pics in that thread I linked. Just a fiddly and long job I'd imagine but very doable with a kit like that.
