Evening all,
My insurance is coming up for renewal soon, I've been with Direct Line for a few years but it's been creeping up over the last few years and that creep seems to be accelerating. Their renewal quote is around the £900 mark, two years ago it was less than £500. I suspect if I call DL and haggle, they'll knock a few bob off, but can't see them discounting £200+.
Having a prod at one of the comparison sites I'm getting quotes from £450 to almost £2K. Aviva Zero is around £550 and at present looks the most attractive. Has anyone any recommendations or avoidance advice? I guess you don't really know how good an insurance company or policy is until you make a claim and this is something I've not had to do for a long time.
Now I've said all that, I'm pretty sure I'll probably write the car off this weekend....
Insurance reccomendations
Re: Insurance reccomendations
Oddly I've just left Aviva for one of my cars as they're going up significantly and moved to Privilege which is where my S8 has been for a while. It is in fact just a "rebranding" of Direct Line but semi-separate.
In the past I've also moved between D/L and Privilege so it's worth asking them for a quote as they have some differences in product and target market.

Evening
I downloaded an app called Drivescore, put details in etc and it monitors your driving. Also has the option to do insurance quotes on this app, did it last year and knocked a fair bit off. Will be doing the same again at end of Feb.

Re: Insurance reccomendations
It depends on how many miles you do a year, but I had a classic car policy with 6 classic cars on it, which are limited to 3000 miles each per year. On my RS4 renewal I thought I'd ask them for a quote. They were more than happy to include the RS4 on the same policy - they regarded it as a specialist vehicle as opposed to classic. I now pay around £800 a year for the 6 classic Triumphs and the RS4 (which itself is limited to 6000 miles a year). The insurance company is KGM.
I have since added 3 classic Vauxhalls and a Hyundai Santa Fe Endurance to the policy, which for the 11 vehicles as a total on next renewal will be sub £2000. A big chunk to pay in one go, but allows all my various cars on one policy and is a lot cheaper than insuring them with individual policies.

Just renewed insurance through go compare, and got price down from £970ish to £516. The drivescore app couldn't do any better, nor could my insurance company. Gone from Swinton to Aviva

Thanks for the replies chaps, I ended up calling DL with my Haggling Hat on and managed to get a quote similar to last year's premium. Go Compare definitely threw up some 'slightly' cheaper ones, but I decided to stick with DL in the end. I think the adjusted quote just about fell into the 'renewal inertia' bracket.
Good call about the classic car policy Johnny, - I have a classic insured with Footman James so will give them a call when the next renewal pops up. Eleven cars, - wowsers, that sounds like a great garage!
