new to forum - help & advise

Post by captain haza » Sun Dec 22, 2024 9:50 pm

Hi Guys

Ive kept my eye on the forum for the last few months as ive been searching for a c7 and the content on here has been really helpful at times, so thank you.

Ive just joined this minute im based in near Manchester. After searching for the last year I finally bit the bullet and found a 6 in Rivera Blue which is really really rare. 2016 with 57k.

If any one bothers to take a minute to read this and help advise me...... it would be much appreciated.

Always been into evos and the JAP crap as people call it :-) so changing to this is completely new , im not mechanically minded either so that doesn't help lol

My first job is the wheels and suspension

my first issue is there is a knocking noise from the front left corner. After having it checked all the bushes and ties are sound but the strut needs re gasing and only Audi can do this supposedly ? is this true and a common problem on a car this age?

Because of the age im thinking of replacing to coil overs to get the problem solved once and for all. I have been recommended bilstiens b16. Are they any good and worth the money ?
im wanting to drop the car 25-30mm I don't wish to slam it.

Also wheel spacers - I have been told you should run same size spacers ideally front and rear but reading posts people go 20mm back and 10-12mm on the front. Having different sizes, does this affect the diffs or anything?

cheers

Hi and welcome,
To answer your questions:
- knocking noise MAY be your strut, but I also have the same noise, replaced unit a few thousand miles ago as well as all bushes etc.... and still have the noise. MRC are as baffled as I am! Doesn't seem to affect handling etc so really don't know what it is. On regassing, I would think your nearest non-Audi option is Unit 20 - Martin will soon sort you out. The DRC on the C7 is pretty bullet proof - mine has done 166K Miles and only had the fronts replaced because of the knock - which didn't fix it.
- spacers can be different front and back no problem. Personally I went down the route of putting 295 tyres on and then just a 5mm spacer all round - more rubber on the road, and outside of tyre is same as having 10mm spacer and 285 tyres - inside of tyre is exactly as OEM so clearances are fine.

Enjoy the Beast!

Front kocking noise can sometimes be the arb links. Make sure they are torqued to spec.
