3 hours at £50.00 per hour labour is great, considering the stealers say it’s a engine out job.
The sensor tip was very clean. I was expecting it to be coated in crap. Original sensor was made by Bosche. The replacement sensor is also of Bosche manufacture and it was purchased from Autodoc for £59.81.
Usually the coil fails and that is the main cause for the sensors to fail. So I have been told.

Well it has lasted 21 years.

Ps. Managed to do it without removing the driveshaft.

The exterior fuel pump is still playing up. Ordered a genuine new one two weeks ago special order from Germany at a cost of £630 ish. About another two to three weeks before I get it.

What’s the chances of a crankshaft sensor and a fuel pump packing up at the same time.

Just Nice to be mobile again. Fingers crossed the old fuel pump keeps going until the new pump arrives.

I came across this whilst spending time on google.
It says it is compatible with our cars.
5 bar pressure and reasonably priced.
I have not ordered one as I have bought original pump via Audi Tradition (£630.00 approx) 4-5 week delivery.

Looks like plumping would be a pain given the very different shape of the input / output.

Yes that could be the problem Ben.
My car is really playing up now. It’s noisy and jumping. Won’t drive it at the moment until the new pump is fitted.
Tried to obtain a temporary replacement but no luck.

Have another 2-3 weeks before I get the new pump.
May have to get a hire car.

The good news. The car starts up first time every time since the new Crank Position Sensor was installed.

Forum member says this one is a replacement for the original but you might have to change the power terminals.

But we established that 200lph isn’t enough at 4 bar, let alone 3 bar.

Spoke to Grizz this morning. He installed one recently without any problems.
Easy to install.
Remove and reuse external padding/sound proofing.
Cut plug off and connect the two ring terminals.
Significantly cheaper and ex stock.

Also recommended by sxcarmyboi.

That pump flows ~170 lph at 4 bar. That's at 13.5V. At 10V I would *guess* it would meet the minimum spec of 120lph.

You'd only need max flow under full load conditions. I suppose if you get misfires under WOT you'd know if it wasn't up to the job.

Might be worth a punt though. Why don't you get one and have it installed? Cheaper than a rental car.

If it wasn’t for the fact that you have to chop the plug off
I would buy one and install it.

As you know I have a genuine pump on order.
So it would be a right faff to re install the plug after having cut it off.

Not sure if Wes (or anyone else) has installed one.

Quick update.
Bought a used original pump. This will be installed next week as a temporary fix (hopefully ), until the new pump arrives from Germany.

Car in garage today for the used external fuel pump to be installed + fuel filter + offside drivers door window regulator.

Regulator is ok but I had to change the near side regulator recently. So I reckon the offside is due to fail.

The used external fuel pump came with a uprated internal fuel pump. The seller wouldn’t split them. So I had to buy both. They were removed from a RS6 C5.

Hopefully by end of the day I will be mobile again.

Apparently Deutsche Parts only order from Audi Tradition at the end of the month. So I have another 4 weeks approx until the new external fuel pump arrives.

Ok, so some good news and bad news.

Personally I would not change your window regulator until it’s faulty. In my experience I’ve not had one fail, but then all my cars have the twin pane glass which means a stronger mechanism.

That’s a shame about your supplier for Tradition stuff. I just ordered a pallet load of stuff (for my own car) and it arrived within 3 days (Germany to Finland). But if I remember correctly it was a reasonable price, so maybe it’s worth the pain?
