been sitting for 9 months...

Post by anditsoundslikebells » Thu Oct 03, 2024 8:56 pm

Hello all,
I'm pleased to say, after a shaky few months, or year, everthing has got back and track and worked out better than I had hoped.
Got a new job with good people, back in the good-life in Holland, but now working in Amsterdam. Much happier here after my little Swiss experiment. Just now with some Swiss friends.
Worked out well.

Now my finances are no longer f@ck£d, I don't have to sell my flat (touch and go), the Audi survived... need to get it back on the road.

I disconnected the battery, topped up the oil, Dutch-SORN.... Then moved back to the UK to get my life in order. It's not moved since.

My worry is about the oil/fluids.

Any thoughts or specific advice to getting these cars running again having sat for that long?

*to be honest I've just remembered the list of issues I had to fix when it got SORN. Oh dear

It's like a hobby right?

Hi Alex. Pleased everything has worked out and you are on the up and up.

From the FAQ section
Oil pressurising the system
Pull fuse 29 and crank the engine over for 5 seconds to prime the pump.
Return fuse and start normally

Also on here to pull fuse 28 (fuel pump), if you intend to turn the car over a few times.

That’s cool. I like a good news story. Congrats.

Thanks as always for your help Steve & Shop.
I'm happy to hear its an easier fix that I thought.

Anything else I should be thinking about if it's not moved for 9 months?

I'll sort the tax and take it for a long cruise to see what I need to fix.

I suppose you could remove the plugs and turn it over without compression. And/or turn it by hand on the crank is you can be arsed to get all the gubbins out of the way.

Not sure I could be arsed to do any of that. Mine sits for months sometimes and I just do the above fuse procedure. You can hear the difference after a few seconds.

Now that the sun is with us it's time for me to get the wagon back on the road.
She is looking really grim as she's sat for a over a year at this point.
I've rolled it and kept the tyre pressure up most of the time. Hopefully the tyres are usable.
I'll pull the fuse as above.

Anything else I should do after sitting for a year?

Looking forward to giving it a wash and fixing the old niggling issues (and the new ones).

Cheers
