SJP Question

Hi all, a quick question if I may.
I’m currently pulling things to pieces to replace my broken SJP (suction jet pump). The inlet manifold is loose and I think it’s just this vacuum pipe and coolant pipe stopping it from detaching from the engine. The coolant pipe looks easy enough to remove however the vacuum pipe is with one of those one time use clips, before I get in there with my Dremel and cut it off. Is there a better way?
Thanks in advance.

Ugh. I hate those. You can sometimes prise them open with a flat blade screw driver. I often use Russian pliers to cut these off. Sometimes in conjunction with the flat blade screwdriver.

Or you could use some side-cutters, but it might blunt them. I’d try to avoid the dremel in case you damage the hose underneath.

Thanks Ben.
This is an awful job, I’ll be happy when everything is back together. It’s quite a bad location to get any tools in there if I’m honest. I’ll look at it again with fresh eyes tomorrow.

One thing that did surprise me is that the inlet manifold bolts (meant to be 10NM) were all finger tight. Might explain my oil leak down the back of the engine. I didn’t need to use a wrench on any of them to get them out. I’m sure that’s not right. Have you seen this before?

No, that’s weird. Maybe they worked their way loose with vibration. I’ve seen that with spark plugs before.

I did a write up on rs246 when mine failed some years ago. I think I might have mentioned that exact fitting.... viewtopic.php?f=2&t=133768...

Thinking back, I seem to remember I used this tool to pry one or 2 of these hoses off. 'Sealey RT003 Long Reach Trim Clip tool'. I was half expecting to replace some of the hoses anyway, but think I got them all off without damage

Hi Homeleigh
Many thanks for your reply
It was your post on RS6 dot COM which gave lots of insight and helped me to collect all the needed parts and attempt the job myself. In the end I used a small cutting disc on the Dremel to get the cut started, from there I was able to get some purchase on the clip and break it with a screwdriver and cutters. Now I have found that not only is the SJP broken, the 180 degree pipe connected to it is split. I have also found that the secondary pump is dead, but I already have a new one ready.
