Window regulator

Post by kvxxy » Tue Jul 09, 2024 4:37 pm

Both my front window regulators and my interior fan motor broke during that mini heatwave a few weeks ago which was fun. Neither of which Audi stock now. Bought a second hand fan motor. Now I need some regulators but I haven’t got much of a clue on brands. Seen some for £20 and some for £100. Are they all pretty much the same? Autodoc have some valeo ones for £53 plus the dreaded duty. But then there some random makes like maxigear, blic etc. sny recommendations?

Been absolutely spot on, only thing you need to buy is a rivet gun and some specific rivets..

They are rivets you have to drill out :)

Is it the Line that snapped ??
I have done both my front windows with a kit from Ebay. Just got the line replaced no need for drilling the rivets out and redoing the entire mechanizm.

Got a day off on Friday so will have a proper look. So you can just replace the cables?

I did on mine - about 3.5 years ago. No problems with them at all. And I do have the doubleglazed windows as well, so the heavier ones. No problems with them.
Just done the cables topped up the silicone grease and presto. All in about 40 min one side. Make sure to mark the frame bolts properly so you don't have issues closing the doors and window fits perfectly to the seals
This one was for left front door

Just checked both sides. Drivers side cable has snapped but passenger side hasn’t. But it makes a horrible crunching noise and the window goes up and down on its own when you use the switch, so I’m guessing it’s on its way out. Both sides have bolts so I’m guessing they’ve never been replaced before.

Think I’ll order the cable kit. Was it easy swap the bits over?

Thanks

It was straight forward. A bit of fiddling to get back in with the springs where the ends of cables attach but just need a bit of concentration and it's in. Take some pics how it's routed and you'll be golden
