New owner - looking for LH headlight

Post by ALE-RS6 » Tue Jun 11, 2024 9:24 pm

Hi All,

I recently purchased a 2003 Audi RS6 C5 and it's looking very sorry for itself at present. The car was involved in a passenger front end bump and i'm currently on the hunt for replacement parts. One i'm struggling with is a passenger side headlight. I've been scouring the forums which confirmed the headlight is specific to the RS6 and replacements appear hard to come by. So I thought i'd reach out on the off chance, and see if anyone had one for sale.

Worst case, I was wondering if I could use a donor from a standard A6 as a temporary measure until I source one so I can get it on the road?

You might be able to use one from another V8 A6. The non-V8 are different.

Thanks Shoppinit, and thanks for your help on other posts i've been reading through whilst researching!

Yes, I noticed S6 lights would work. But I couldn't hook up a standard xenon from a standard A6 as a crude temporary measure? Need to get it in for an MOT soon but obviously need a replacement headlight first. I'm too eager to take it on a first drive.

I doubt you’d be able to mount it properly without a lot of bodging. The V8 bodies are different. Why don’t you get a cheap one and see if it can be made to fit.

There was a couple on eBay for breaking, but there wasn't much left of the cars when I enquired. It's quite funny when you ring breakers yards they just laugh at you. One yard pointed out that Lithuania bought them all which seems to be true when looking at the eBay ads. I'll keep hunting. Failing that, i'll just have to try a non v8 xenon in the short term.

Wasn't there someone making full LED units for our cars? I have a vague memory bell going off quietly on it.

I have bought parts from Lithuania.
Great guys to deal with.

I believe Faz gardener has headlights for sale.
Pm me your phone number or email.
I will ask him to contact you.
He is genuine and I can vouch for him as I have bought stuff from him.

Hi ALE-RS6 (do you want to share your real name?)

I’m Craig Barlow, been in this group under various names over the last 10+ yrs - but Craig is my real name.

As a new member I recommend you also join some of the dedicated Facebook groups for these cars. But beware some groups are not as well managed as others and scammers are a massive problem these days. I am happy to help you and guide you, but I don’t know your name

Ben (Shoppinit) is correct you can use any V8 headlamp (smaller engined cars won’t fit). However… the facelift production year was 2001 and this is important because all RS6’s are facelift (2002 - 2004).

Pre-facelift lights will physically fit and function, but only have a 2.5” Hella projector lens. Facelift cars are fitted with a 3” lens and externally look different. Also remember that LHD cars have different headlamps to RHD. All headlamps have a lever inside which adjusts the beam for when you are driving in a different country temporarily, but ideally you want the headlamp for your country.

Brand new headlamps are still available from Audi Tradition, but if you are outside of Europe or in the UK it will be difficult to order from them. Price is currently 1310euros for RHD headlamps.

You could always use Steve Green, probably has the biggest collection of spares in the UK just depends if he wants to part with one headlight or not.
