Light knocking from under car - drive backlash / play.

Recently i noticed at very low speed, such as when the engine speed at tickover almost exactly matches the wheel speed for 1st gear, i hear a light knocing fron under the centre of the car. Like there is some backlash in the drive.

Most noticable when reversing and lifting on / off the clutch, its a light audiable knock or clunk. Sounds like it comes from below the gear stick area. possibly slightly to the drivers side.

I could almost swear that it only started recently, but i may just be noticing it more now that i am aware of it.

Is this normal? am i being too fussy? or has anyone experienced anything similar. Its not noticably loud, but i can heat enough to question it.

Do you have any idea if your car used to have a miltek ?? I only ask because a poorly refitted exhaust would cause your symptoms.

Turned out to be the propshaft had excess play, Replaced under Warranty,

And 13 years / 33k miles later, i am hearin a similar sound again.

This time i need to inspect myself..... Quite loud when making low speed manouvers rocking on/off the drive train slack.

Audi don't sell the centre bearing on its own, it can only be purchased with the complete prop-shaft assembly..... which is certainly not cheap!

When we did my underside restoration, we ordered up a 034 Motorsport bearing and refurbished the existing prop.

Runs perfectly.
