Farewell RS6 - Its been a pleasure...

Post by Longy_UK » Wed Apr 17, 2024 3:17 pm

Well after about 15month of ownership I have sold my RS6.

I had a tango red vorsprung and covered about 13,500miles in that period.

How was ownership for me -

Pretty special to be honest! The RS6 is a legend - the sound - the stance it's everything you want it to be! Moving on was hard.

Over the 15 months the car had two issues. The fuel filler cap stopped opening and the 'gateway module' needed replacing; all sorted under warranty. Other than that she went like a dream.

Why did I jump ship

Owning an RS6 was a life long dream and I couldn't ignore it. I could so i did. But after about six months the shine wore off and it felt like a lot of car to commute in and a lot of cost to go with it. My other (rather unpopular) opinion was that the RS6 just isn't worth the extra £60k+ compared to a well spec'd A6 BE. I know this for a fact as I had a brand new one before my RS6. Sit in an RS6 and cover the RS button and logo on the steering wheel and you are basically say in an A6. I want my £100k+ car to be special all round and not have the same dash as a boggo £40k A6.

[My overall consumption since I picked it up - 21.8mpg]

I eventually sold the car as the running costs (fuel, insurance, tax) just weren't justified anymore. The car was now just a car and a very expensive one at that.

What next?

This is where you'll no doubt spit your coffee out. I needed a car that excited me but didn't drink fuel like it had a leak. There has only ever been one car I have admired and that is the Taycan Sport Tourismo. I know, I know... No V8... Electric crap etc. How will I ever get over the range anxiety... The answers are pretty simple the car is more fun to drive (Yep i said it) and financially it a sensible decision. My wife has a velar so if required that is used, this is my car and its used predominantly for my 35 / 40 mile commute.

[The new wagon... If you hate it - drive one - trust me]

The headlines are that performance wise it is pretty much identical to my RS6 from standing although it is certainly quicker when stabbing the throttle at any given speed. The main thing though my daily commute cost of circa £14 is now 90p (yes you read that correctly!). I now drive to work in a 600BHP Porsche with rear tyres wider than you could imagine and the road tax is £0 yes £0!

I know this car will divide opinion here but given the EV depreciation panic (not something that effects me) i got the GTS three months old with 350miles on for £45k under list. Leccy cars are not for everyone but are ideal for some - myself included. Ands lets not forget the next RS6 will likely be full EV...

This forum is terribly slow but i wanted to leave a post here to say thanks and goodbye! If you're looking to by a C8 RS6 just do it you wont regret it - i certainly don't!

My car is for sale at erdington audi if you fancy it. - https://www.jardinemotors.co.uk/audi/us ... tiptronic/.

Cheers.

Would love to hear any further thoughts you may have on the Taycan. Ive currently got a C7 RS6 but am debating whether to get a C8 or jump <beep> and go for the porsche

With all due respect this is not the place to be talking about electric cars. I am sure there must be some forum somewhere debating this type of vehicle.

Why not if the comparison is being made to an RS6?

I totally understand your decision. I went from 3 RS6’s to my RS etron GT. Also got it for £45k off list from a main Audi dealer with 1,500 miles on it. I love it to bits.
