Steering wheel plus mirror question

Post by stevo55 » Mon Apr 29, 2024 11:41 am

Let the tinkering begin!
I know this has probably been asked a few times before and all the research I’ve done show old threads or not the right part. The steering wheel on the car is looking a bit tatty plus its the 3 spoke with no multi function buttons. I read that a 4 spoke with MF was available as an official option but am struggling to find the right part. Also see that a heated option was available-how difficult would it be to retro fit that (being hamfisted I am unfortunately going to have to get almost all the work done by someone else-Matt was all over the DIY part but my skills lie elsewhere) as having a heated wheel is bliss?
Mirrors-there seems to be no 'reverse dip’ on the car, have changed the mirror left to right on reverse but no joy and I have to do it manually. Was it an option and is it a coding fix?

It's easy enough to swap the wheels, if you can find one. Make sure you get one with the slip ring and the airbag.

Some people don't find the 4 spoke very attractive, but these people are obviously not right in the head. :bigblink: This might be a controversial opinion.

IIRC the mirrors don't move on reverse. Welcome to 20+ year old cars.

Ha yes some of the stuff on the car is hilarious-jump into the R8 and it’s like being in a spaceship by comparison. Makes up for it in character and being an icon though.
Any chance you can throw a pic up of your steering wheel please?

I don't appear to have any photos of my wheel handy, but it looks exactly like this:

Ok great thanks-the heated element (assuming you have the heated one) is that a switch on the wheel itself or to the side? Wondering how I could get that retrofitted.
Also-is there no ‘RS6’ logo on yours?

No RS logo on the 4 spoke. IIRC all the RS6 4 spoke were heated. It comes on with the driver's heated seat. I must admit, as much as I couldn't care less about heated seats, the heated steering wheel is veeeeery nice.

Steering wheel plus mirror question

Heated seats rock! They do get pretty hot in the 6 though. In my recent E63S the system decided (no matter the temperature) that you’ve had enough warmth and would slowly turn itself off and no manner of cursing and pushing of buttons would it switch back on for while. Drove me mental on a cold day.

Steering wheel plus mirror question

Post by TOPMAN » Tue Apr 30, 2024 11:18 pm

Hi Stevo

There were 4 different versions of the C5 RS6 4 spoke MFSW (multifunction steering wheel). Basically 2 leather options, smooth or perforated and also heated and non heated.
If your car was fitted with option 2FK (like mine) or 2ZD then it has the heated option.
If your car was fitted with option 2FL or 2ZS then it has the non-heated option.

8Z0419091BD8UD is heated with perforated
8Z0419091BD1KT is heated with smooth leather

Just like Shoppinit mentions: neither of the 4 spokes have any RS markings. Also the heated steering wheel turns on when the front heated seats are operated.

No options available for auto-dipping mirror when reverse is selected

Did George Oliver get in touch regarding the steering wheel.
I did pass on your email details.

Very sad and embarrassed to report that the ‘seller’ on that FB group going under the name ‘George Oliver’ took my money and ran. More fool me as normally I’m all over this stuff but everyone has an off day and this was mine. Stolen £250 so I’m now spreading the word and taking other measures.
Have lots of info and will put a thread up as I have been approached by members on here recently that I suspect were also scammers but I didn’t bite.
I rejoined Facebook to buy the steering wheel and have unfortunately found out how bad fraud has got. Feel for the genuine sellers out there.
Buyer beware and this time I got bit. Could have been much worse I guess.

What scummy c*nt. Gutted for you. Could have been worse, I suppose. I had a similar experience buying an RNS-E. Got proper scammed like a noobie. Still, it serves as a lesson.

Did you send money by bank transfer thinking, like me, that it gave you some kind of protection (it doesn't)?

Paid on bank transfer after multiple attempts on PayPal (which should have been red flags but I was distracted enough at the time to not think ‘STOP’) and two other bank accounts (probably dodgy).
Be nice to think something will happen but I’m not that naive. These creatures are like whack a mole.
Here’s the turd in question:
