New RS4 Avant Carbon, or used '22 RS6?

Hi all, about to take the plunge into RS world. Moving from 2017 A6 avant BiTdi 320 and have just signed up today for new Carbon Black RS4, only to spot a nice looking '22 RS6 with 8k on the dial, after the fact.

Have been spoilt by the space in the A6 & with two 6ft teenagers & horse-sized dog, just a bit nervous about the space in the 4 (did take the dog to the dealership to try on for size & he fits...just).

Numbers look about the same on each, so for someone who is normally quite decisive, I find myself really torn here. Same dealer, so a flip shouldn't be too hard you would think.

So question is, new RS4 carbon or used RS6?

I used to be indecisive, now I'm just unsure...

I would say having the option to have an RS6 previously and decided on the RS4, the thing that swung it for me was handling (boaty) and the mpg (bearable).
My previous car was an A4 S Line black edition, the extra boot space would have been nice but I would only fill it with stuff I didn't really need to be carrying around and the overall size of the RS6, you need to turf all your passengers out before you squeeze it between other cars in a parking space!
Lovely but too big for my needs.
You could always add a roof box if you think you are going to be short of carrying capacity (not for the dog).
I'm 5'10" and the space behind my seat in the back is acceptable.
Alternatively put the dog in the back seat and the teenagers in the boot!

Thanks for the comments Jools. I have a 6.5ft tall 14 year old & a 6.3ft 18yo, so legroom in the back is a key thing here. We measured the horse-dog up on the 4 yesterday & he fits, just. We do have a roof box for the A6 & that is needed on long trips even with the extra space the A6 allows.

As mum & Dad are also not far off 6ft, you can see why we are conflicted!!

It has road presence because it’s fooking massive!

Only way to determine is to stick everyone in each and see how it goes.

The rs6, more so than the A6 is massive. It’s not easily parked, if you’re at all precious, and that can be material.

Thanks all for your wise words. Doodlebug, you make a valid point on how much bigger the RS6 is than the A6 avant - thats bad enough in some of the tiny excuses for parking spaces out there these days. Have just been up to the dealer with one of the boy-giants as a yardstick & tried the RS4, RS6 & even a SQ7 (which felt a little like a barge by conparision - or was that just me?). Interestingly the boy giant felt there was pretty much the same leg room in the 4 as the 6 weirdly. He was adamant it would comfy enoug for our long trips from Staffs down to Bournemouth & also further afield. Given he is off the uni soon anyway, it will only be a temporary thing.

So to sum up, looks like the 4 is the way forward once all the factors have been weighed & yardsticks measured.
