Interesting video on two RS4 with rocker arm failures
Re: Interesting video on two RS4 with rocker arm failures
Doesn't one of the Stickers either in the boot or the driver door have the engine model / batch code on it?
2018 B9 RS4 Daytona Grey
Re: Interesting video on two RS4 with rocker arm failures
The build Sticker does have information on it but it only gives a build year and build number in that year which isn't very helpful.
A year and build week would be more useful.

Re: Interesting video on two RS4 with rocker arm failures
I'm guessing the grey car had been mapped if the warranty repair was refused?
Re: Interesting video on two RS4 with rocker arm failures
Unless you can scan the engine ECU with ODIS which would throw up a program map disrecpancy with Audi's server records in Germany it might be difficult to prove.
Even so a performance engine should be able to take a 50BHP lift in power with no problem otherwise they would be failing all over the place.
It would be interteresting to see how may launches were stored in the ECU memory!
Additionally it might have been an early B9 car so it would have been out of even the extended 5 year warranty period. The private plate makes it difficult to date it.
Bear in mind this video was taken in May last year.

Unbelievable this was a Random watch on you tube and can’t believe Audi walks away from this fault.
TBH sounds like Audi don’t care about loyal customers.
Hope it all well Jools, 420 AK plate Nardo Grey was for sale on Autotrader from memory.

Re: Interesting video on two RS4 with rocker arm failures
I've just looked at DVLA, apparently 420 AK is a July 18 registration, presently with no TAX but an MOT. So it could be in someones showroom somewhere or it could have been scrapped!
As with all car manufacturers, Audi pretend to care about there customers nowadays until they have to put there hands in there pockets to pay for a repair. How else do you think they are paying there diesel gate fines!
I've done 6,500 miles since the rebuild and the car hasn't missed a beat.
I'm now fighting an intermittent MMI fault that causes it to keep rebooting until it just gives up. A scan shows it is in the MOST optical loop which looks after the radio, usb, phone, sound system functions. I'm still fault finding, but its looking like the main module in the glovebox, even though its pointing to another module.

Hate to ask could this Happen on B9.5 2020 ? Im looking for longevity and TBH I want at least 5 years and finish with 69-70k on the clock.

Re: Interesting video on two RS4 with rocker arm failures
I think buying any car second hand is always a risk, “caveat emptor” especially a performance one, as you never know how the previous owner has driven it. But these engines and power trian should be built to take it.
To my knowledge all the B9.5's have the 'new' design rocker arms in. All the sources across the internet say so anyway, mainly the Amercan market as they have the S4 cars with the DECA engine in which they then tune!
If you have a VCDS cable you can apparently look at the number of launches the car has done, that would also give you an indication of how hard it has been driven. Asking how many miles they get out of a set of tyres and what does the surface of them look like? If its 6000 miles and there are rolls of torn rubber on them that would make me pause.
I get about 16 to 18,000 miles out of mine, daily driver mainly motorway driving. Bear in mind a set will cost you about £1000+
Also you should have the same tread depth on both tyres across an axle, especially if you have the torque vectoring rear diff and only 2mm difference between the average tread depth on the front axle to rear axle! Otherwise this can put unnecessary load on the viscous couplings.
Coninental Contact 6 are 7mm tread depth new if memmory serves me correctly.
If you are looking at 420AK, it might be worth a call to VAG Technic and ask if they rebuilt it, or did the owner take it away and get someone else to do it, to get some more history on it. There video left it hanging. Is the car still being Audi serviced or back street economy style? Mine still gets the Audi oil stamps in.

Re: Interesting video on two RS4 with rocker arm failures
Just bought new rubber for the front of mine.
Based nr Burton on Trent
Summers good for keeping the car clean longer, but you have to work quicker before the suds dry out

Re: Interesting video on two RS4 with rocker arm failures
Just watched part 2 of this video… Interesting in many ways.. got to be a crazy man to even consider 420Ak..
Re: Interesting video on two RS4 with rocker arm failures
Yep watched it last night, some poor unsuspecting person is going to end up with a big suprise some day soon
Re: Interesting video on two RS4 with rocker arm failures
Do you mind sharing how much the VWFS extended warranty is (and what mileage and excess that is with please)?elchet wrote:I'm keeping my extended warranty going in the vague hope that I'll be able to get them to cover the costs of repair (£3k+ minimum?) should mine ever start rattling.
Prospective buyer here and keeping the warranty going is something I would like to factor.

Re: Interesting video on two RS4 with rocker arm failures
my last extended warranty was £650 for the year and it was worth the money as the car just had a shock, spring and mount replaced i had them check out the engine as i was convinced i could hear the tapping noise but the failed to find anything wrong but to be fair the engine is quieter when i got it back i should have recorded the noise before and after
but when i put it in the cooling fans were going full blast i thought it was the thermostat again but turned out to be rats had chewed through a cable feckers
getting a better fitting garage door to stop that happening again
also i did have some low speed scuttle noise that was explained as normal and i have herd it on another RS4 but after the shock was replace there is no noise from the suspension at all
so i would recommend anyone have that issue to get DRC re pressurized
