07L903015C/CX seem to be the only one fitting to the sedan version and some sort facelift of the avant.
07L903015D/DX works on the rest of them.
About the procedure, we removed the bumper, the main and small coolant + the AC radiator (empty the AC first), which gives you all the space need to replace the alternator.
Toughest part that took 30min was to put back the hose that sits on the top of the alternator.
Tips: If you ever have to do this one, change the belt and tension roller(s) (order in advance) + whatever is reachable at that point.
I've got the issue abroad during the vacation and for sure it wasn't fun.
I missed to take more pictures, however here are 2 of them before removing the alternator and after it's out.
Cheers,

You can search the forums for C6_RS6_Engine_Wiring_Diagrams... Somewhere there is a link to Ian's site with the pdf.

Re: ALternator/generator
It goes via pin 8 of the red 17pin connector inside the electronics box below the two ecus.

Re: ALternator/generator
thanks ian ive been chatting to ricky elder and there are two different alternators which use the blue lin wire differently so am thinking that ive had the wrong one fitted and thats why my car is saying no comms to generator/alternator. gonna check the wiring though
